Bought a 01' cobra......Sweet

Traded in my truck today for a 01' cobra.....Went out on the drag tonight and was 2-0 against LS1's.... I had them by 4- 5 cars to 110mph. This car is fast, way faster than I thought it would be.

I had a group of LS1's following me all night, but after I smoked there friends who were not stock they backed off.

A friend of mine just came over and "gave" me a set of Mac longtubes for it. I still have the air silencer in and it is way faster than my 5.0.

What do the 01's usually run in the 1/4.

Im pumped,

Crazyhorse..........I was actually going to buy an LS1 I seen one on this car lot and I pulled in so I could check it out. The salesman comes and ask me if I wanted to drive it and I said hell yes. It was fast and pretty nice but it squeeked and rattled every time I hit a bump. I ask the salesman what else you got, He replied we have a 01' Cobra out back, I test drove the Cobra and my search was over. They tried to rape me on the price cause its a Cobra and I am young. They told me they would let me have it for $735.00 per month:eek: ..........4 hours of intense negotiating later I drove the car off the lot for $500.0 a month.

It only has 7,000 miles on it. The term "Buying hapiness" applies here.

SWEET!!!!....can I drive?:)

I think MM/FF got a 13.2 out of the 01 Cobra with lots O wheel hop.

polara7777 07-13-2002 09:37 AM

Too sweet man! Wish I could afford a Cobra of any year. :( I almost got a 98 Cobra once. Black on black. Oh it was so nasty. *sigh* Ahh well always the future.

MustangKelly96 07-13-2002 11:34 AM

Sounds like an awesome car.
Congrats:D

Mercury 07-13-2002 11:50 AM

I think the fastest time MM&FF got out of it was a 13.12. Could be wrong because my memory sucks.

Congrats on the purchase man, sounds like your ONE HAPPY CAMPER, I know I would be.

Gears, an X-Pipe, and a Aftermarket shifter...You'll definetly be showing them LS-1's whats up.

P.S. Could you hear them rattle and squeak as you pulled on them, or as they followed you? :D

No I couldnt hear any rattles or squeeks, but......I did hear some gear grinding as they powershifting trying to keep up.

I have gained all kinds of respect for the 4.6 mod motor. I am even thinking of selling my 5.0....

Tonight I am going to try and race this guy in a 96 or so Viper.

I am about to remove the air silencer in a minute, and as soon as I get $200.00 I am getting the headers installed.

StoplightWarrior 07-13-2002 01:36 PM

Nice purchase man!!

Solid axle, some 4.30's and that exhaust, you'll be low 12's!!

RAGE_5.0 07-13-2002 01:41 PM

I love the cobras. As soon as I get out of school and making decent money I am gonig to get a nice cobra. I really like the 94-98 cobras so it will most likely be one of those years but I also like the 99+. It all depends on how much money i wanna spend.

Congrats on buying a kickass car.

venumus93 07-13-2002 02:09 PM

Congrats!

COngrats on the '01 Cobra, Dark!!!!! Welcome to the world of awesome SVT vehicles. The only way I would get rid of mine is if I could afford an '03...but now you got me thinking of the 01's as well! Way to spank some of the General's boys too, must have felt great!
Keep us posted on your mods/kills!

Dark_5.0 07-14-2002 02:18 AM

Nice to see you back Unit..........Thanks for the replies guys.

I tried to race a porshe carerra vert but it would not race for fun. The only action I was able to get was a El Camino I smoked him by 5+ cars and then he did a ricer fly by.

Glad to see you stuck with a mustang. :) Congrats!

BTW, Is it just me or does it seemed that $400-500 payments are the norm on new vehicles nowadays??

No its not just you.....They tried to stick me with $735.00 per month. I negotiated it down to $500.00 per month.

I know a guy paying $700.00 a month for 6 years on a 35th anniversary LS1 Camaro.

I will never waiver again Ford all the way baby.

Thanks

I don't get it..... on 5 year note compared to a 3 year note? If they were both 5 year notes, that would be a difference of $14,100. They just add another year or what?

Mercury 07-17-2002 02:15 AM

Hey Dark 5.0...What was the intrest rate??

Dark_5.0 07-17-2002 07:44 AM

I got a 6.9% interest rate.

It has 3.27 gears.

I analyzed there deal and iliminated the.

-If I die its paid for option.
-Free oit changes
-Protection for if its totaled and I owe more than what I get they pay off the remainder.
-etc....

And I beat them way down on the price of the Cobra, and magicaly the payment went from 735 to 500 after 4 hours of negotiating. What I got is called a stripped deal, that is where all you are paying for is the car and not all the BS services that they get payed to sell you. I ended up having to put 1500 down with my truck I traded in to get them to take the deal.

1bad89- Both the 735 and the 500 are based on a 5 year deal.

The best part is my insurance only went up 10 bucks.

You think your 01 is fast, I was talking to a guy at a meet last week that just traded his 01 in for an 03...says there is no comparison...Start saving those pennies:)

Anyway you look at it, thats a sweet car....good luck with it

How many miles did it have and what did it run you?

SilverGT02 07-17-2002 08:24 AM

7000 miles..just read it...sorry:):D

Yes, I do think it fast......And yes the 03's are faster. There is always something faster. All I wanted was a sports car for a weekend cruiser and I would have spent 10,000 dollars more for a 03'...

Here in a few monthe my 88GT will smoke the 03's.

Coupe Devil 07-17-2002 10:11 AM

I dotn like you anymore, im jealous.I want one....

Brad

rbatson 07-17-2002 11:10 AM

Sounds like they were really trying to sock it to ya. I never buy anything but the vehicle.

SilverGT02 07-17-2002 12:13 PM

Dark 5.0,

I hope you didnt take offense to my post. I didnt mean to dog your car in any way..just pumping up what a good job Ford is doing by making improvements...

Dark_5.0 07-17-2002 12:38 PM

I know;) ........

The Deuce 07-17-2002 12:53 PM

Dude, nice car. What did they end up telling you the purchase price of the car was? I ran the numbers and sounds nice and expensive. I would have just walked out when they offered the $735 a month for 5 years. Lets just say you could have gotten an '03 if the interest rate was true.;)

Let me know, I'm always suspicious of dealers and their lies.

Dark_5.0 07-17-2002 01:49 PM

The 03' Cobra's are selling for $39,500.00 here in Odessa. Thats 13,000 more than what I paid.

The Deuce 07-17-2002 02:13 PM

I was hoping you would say that. At 6.9%, the $235 a month difference ($735-500) works out to be almost $12,000. Sounds like you ended up actually getting 6.9% in the end, what were they telling you were the numbers to get to that original payment?

Doug McGinn 07-17-2002 02:20 PM

Their sellin them for 39,500?
Im looking at my window sticker right now and MSRP is 34,750
and that includes the 1000 dollar gas guzzler tax.
Of course its a coupe also not a convertible.

The Deuce 07-17-2002 04:09 PM

Doug,
Some places charge 5k as either a "Market Adjustment" or just to help make up the SVT franchise fee, becuase they don't sell that many and the margin is small. At least those are the excuses they give.

Doug McGinn 07-17-2002 04:44 PM

well then i would say its worth your time to hop a plane and fly somewhere else to purchase the car and then drive it home.
Hell even get a trailor and drive both ways you would be money ahead.

silver_pilate 07-17-2002 06:44 PM

Sweet purchase, man.

So...when you gonna cruise up here and let me drive it? :D

A buddy of mine had an order for a '03 Cobra but backed out of the deal when the dealership got it. He had connections at the dealership and got it locked into the MSRP from Ford without any further dealer mark-up. He said the monthly payments kinda scared him away after he seriously thought about it. I can understand as he has a wife and kids. But, MAN!! I wish he would have got it because he would have let me drive the thing! :(
