Bought a product from the Dark Side!
I never thought I would see the day, but I actually bought a GM product. Before you scold me, listen to the story.
I went to a public auction at an impound lot last weekend looking specifically for a ranger or some small cheap truck to get me around when the stang is in the garage and during the winter. Well there was an explorer, a bronco II and a 91 ranger there that I was prepared to bid on. But as I did, the other guys there outbid me and I thought my day was done. But then the very last vehicle was a 87 Chevy Blazer. I looked it over, almost perfect interior, body in very good shape except for a small amount of rust under the doors. None of the cars had keys, so I wasnt sure if it ran. The power steering pump pulley had about an inch of play in it, and it had a flat tire. Other than that, it was a decent truck. 2.8L V6, automatic, 4 wheel drive. and since it was the last vehicle, most everyone had already bought something and not one person bid on it. Not even me. So after everything was done, I walked inside and asked if they would take the minimum bid for it. they said yes, and i got it. I got the truck for $355. That price for a truck in this good of condition is the only reason I own a GM now:) I got it home and put an ignition lock cylinder in it and a fairly new battery and the thing fired right up. From the looks of it, it hadnt been started in a LONG time. I havent put a serpentine belt on it yet, but i backed it down my driveway, so I know atleast 1st gear and reverse work in it. Also when looking under the hood, I noticed that the block and the heads had been painted red, so I'm suspecting the engine has been rebuilt at somepoint. I figure with just a couple hundred bucks, this will be a pretty reliable second vehicle and winter truck for me. Just thought I'd share |
TRAITOR!!!
;) Sounds like too good a deal to pass up! Best deal I ever had was a 72 Pinto for $15. Spent $300 on parts, built myself a raced out 2000cc engine for it, with a Holley, MSD, Comp cam, & a header, and that puppy rocked! http://homepage.mac.com/pkrwud/.Pict...o/72pinto.jpeg Any bargain is a good one. Take care, -Chris |

This is to inform you that you are officially banned from Mustang Works from this day forward. Kidding! Actually, that sounds like a great deal for a beater and one that I would probably go for myself, in your situation. As much as I love Mustangs, I'm not blind to the fact that there are other good vehicles available and some have the name 'Chevrolet' on them. No big deal. |
I'd pay $355 for the truck, my $500 worth of explosives and and a $855 fireworks show for my neighbours. =) j/k my buddy has Blazer, I beleive similar to that year. It's a good little truck, I think he only payed $500 for it (Canadian), his mom works for a cable company and they were selling there old trucks. It's fun, we try to get him to go off roading with it but he never really goes. hehehe......
You can get some really good deals at Car auctions, I seen some '87 Ford (I don't even remember what it was) go for $90 Canadian. And it ran and look really good, like very very little rust on the bottom of the car that could probably be just cut off cause I'm not even sure why it was there. And bout a 4 inch dent on the side. But it started up perfectly fine. I believe it had a 302 in it. |
yah yah yah, I'm a traitor, but if it keeps my stang out of the snow then oh well
another thing I forgot to mention, I actually got the truck for a cheaper price than the OWNER could have gotten it out of impound for, he woulda had to pay $550 to get it out:) |
As long as you didn't sell a Ford to get the Chevy it's cool.:D
|
i had a '84 blazer as my winter car so the mustang could be garaged for the winter. i picked mine up for $150 and i beat the hell out of it.:D
|
As long as you are sacrificing the chevy to pamper the ford, its ok. lol.

I'm not sure, but I don't even remember seeing a blower on it, but it probably did.

yeah i imagine he was running some real serious gear, but thats neat, don't see many engines like that been used (at least as far as i know of)
|
That same day i also saw a battery powered (as in 12 volt batteries), full size, human driven dragster do an 8 second 1/4 too. It was so quiet! All you heard was a slight humming sound as it flew by.
Take care, -Chris |
what you've gotta be kidding me. that would be wicked to see.

True story! It was either the '98 or '99 NHRA Finals. I go to the Finals and the WinterNationals every year, so sometimes I get dates confused, but this was either the '98 or '99 Finals.
Take care, -Chris |
oh i believe you that it can be done. but that is neat that someone took the time to build one. is there any pictures of the car or stats on it.
