hatch release button on 87 LX
the hatch release button on my 87 mustang isnt' functioning. what are the things that I should check for? please help

The hatch release circuit isn't a real complicated one. When you push the release button it sends voltage to a trunk release solenoid. Check at the solenoid for voltage, with a voltmeter, when you press the button. If you find 12v then the solenoid is bad, if you don't pull the button and check it to make sure one of the wires supplies it with 12v. If there is 12v, then I would try manually connecting the wires, simulating switch closure. If that works, then the switch is defective. If not, then look for a blown fuse. If you can't find one, run a new power wire to it.

so if the switch is bad, i could buy a button switch from autozone or somethign like that?
