i have noticed the lack of respect the mustang world has received since the advent of the import scene. Its very discouraging, to spend hours on end working on a "mustang" to have every 16-20 second honda (with thousands of dollars of performance increasing VINYL) mess with me. I feel like i have no allies in this fight. Nobody i know shares the passion i have for working on mustangs. It seems that all the people around me just pay to have things done. What ever happened to spending a entire weekend with your friends pulling your car apart to add new mods? Yes, there are many of you that do your own work and i have nothing but respect for anyone that works on their mustang. But i dont know anyone first hand. I dont know anyone that shares the passion. My friends are great but nobody but my girlfriend will get the hands dirty. She is the only push i have to keep turning wrenches.

I know what your talking about man. I spent countless hours tuning, rebuilding, modifying my old Mustangs. Spent countless hours polishing, and shining them. And the young kids now a days with there imports dont have any respect for the do-it yourselfer.

Me and my friends have spent alot of time doing our own work on our new Mustangs. I put my Off-road H-pipe on (With friends), put my pullies on, put my own shifter on (Nothing hard about that one at all), the only thing I havent done to my cars myself was put the 40 series flows on my 2000 GT, and thats because I dont know how to weld.

The thing that kills the most is i am one of the young kids (23) I was infected with the mustang bug at 16 and cant shake it. i dont fit the mold, which is fine, i strive to be different. Its nice to know others share my feelings

I hear ya loud and clear! Working on my car and driving it late at night are my forms of theropy. I have been with out Marbles for a week now and have been going nuts. The stress is just eating me. But i got her running again and am about to go fr a little trip . keep Turning those wrenches. There are more of us out there than you can imagine. I am young too(19). Light EmUp!!!

How do u think I feel. I am 24 and there is no one anywhere with an older car let alone a mustang within 20 years of my age. Me and my dad do most of the work on the car. There are lots of stuff that i don't do like welding and stuff like that. My dad and I have spent countless satrudays putting things on the car. I don't think it will ever end.
Noslow a week i wish i had ur problems i have been six months without mine and still have six months to go. (army doesn't allow u to take cars to where i am at in korea) I am about to go completly nuts.

My dad probably couldnt do a tune up without screwing something up. Granted hes a very smart man, he rather play with his garden then to get motor oil on his hands.

it's good to know that there are still "youngins" with big engine heads that can't get enough of cars and especially mustangs. i want desprately to get into engines and "do it yourself" projects. but the free time needed to learn and get things done just isn't there, there are too many other things going on. ESPECIALLY in the summer and fall. i'd have to drop other interests to learn what i need to satisfy the "urge" if you know what i mean. plus the cash aint always there either for parts. but i figure since i just turned 21 last month, i still have plenty of years to learn the knowledge that i want to. i'll eventually be able to talk engines with my friends and hopefully earning some extra $$ on the side by doing some work on other people's stangs. then i can pull into starbucks in front of all those rich kids who got their cars from mommy and daddy and say "uh huh, that was all me right there, oh yea; wanna run 'em?" lol. but i can only learn stuff here and there, but it's comin.

that said, i respect the HECK outta guys (and gals ) that do their own work with their own time AND MONEY. i see waaay too many little kids in high school with "farting" imports with window stickers and loudly colored body paint schemes and 18" chrome rims. and i think to myself, "yea ok, i guess that job at Burger King pays $25 an hour for him to have the money himself for that ride." peoples' parents can be such shmuks when it comes for forking out cash for their bratty kids' cars.

to all the do-it-yourselfers (young and old) ROCK ON!! ha

all these imports, and all i see is them washing/waxing (even if their car has tri-colored fenders and bumpers)and playing with there stereos. i'm 21 so i only have a few years of experience, but i still do all the work to my car with the help of my dad. we just put in a new motor and interior, and are now rebuilding the rear end. its great getting dirty, and i'm always making an excuse to go out and tinker with my car! whats best is when i drive my car i take pride in knowing all the work was done at home!

My dad HATES my mustang, my friends aren't into cars that much. So the only one I can get to help is my cousin, and hes rarely around.

So yeah, workin on it alone does suck.

I know how you all fell. My dad enjoys working on cars but he works alot and usually doesn't feel like helping much but it's ok. One of my closest freinds is doing a frame up on a 65 coupe and swapping in a 351 w/ a 4 speed. I help him and he helps me, another friend is a certified welder so he gets a lot of work from all us car guys that hang out together. He is going to do the custom cage in my Ranger.

Another thing I have noticed is that nearly all these people that have work done on thier cars, momma and daddy are payin for it. I don't know about you but my parents haven't put up a dime for any project i've had. My mom thinks its stupid, and dad just keeps quiet so he doesn't have to listen to mom. I think these parents that spend thousands on the kids cars are just searching for ways into thier kids hearts. Sure I guess if my dad tossed me the keys to a new Lightning or Cobra I would probably care about him more, for long enough to do a smokey burnout out of the driveway.

If you work hard and pay for everything that you do to your car you appreciate it much more or at leasst I do. I enjoy working on something all the time whethter it's my cars or hopping up the roto tiller, hehehe. I just think that you should have to have a stamp on your forehead if you are to scared to get dirty that you have to get all the work from someone else. It's great even when the ladies work on the cars. I don't know about you other guys but when I see a woman elbow deep in posi track rearend lube it gets my blood pumpin. I wish all the people of the world would love and appreciate cars as much as the people on here. Now I understand that not everyone can do thier own work. I admit that sometimes it is better to have some work done at a pro's shop, but come on having everything done. I know people that have "fast" cars or so they say that havent turned a single wrench themselves. Then they will be talkin about cars and say "I did this" and "Iput on a new______". I hate that.

Sorry this is so, i'm long just rantin. Glad someone started this topic.

I respect ALL of you. I wish I could could work on cars, but I do not have the experince or a trainer. I'm young too (19) waiting on my (yet to have) Yellow Mustang GT.
I feel as though if I work on my own car, it something went wrong it's my fault. And I do not trust my own work somethings. BUT STILL the joy of knowing it was your handy-work beats all!! Bar-none.

I have nothing but respect!!!

Ahhhh Yes. Nothing better on a early, hot Saturday Afternoon than being in a friends garage with a 67 Fairlane street beast on Jack stands. And a Six pack sittin in the cooler. ( I dont drink much, just one or two beers every now and then. I wait about 3-4 hours before driving again)

Miller Lite in one hand, 3/4 or 1/2 in wrench in the other. Okay, call me a RedNeck. A sip here, a turn of the wrench there. The best part about hours tunning and rebuilding is the Test runs on the street afterward. Oh yes, only one thing that comes really close to being as gratifying. But its not quite as.

I miss thoses days with the miller lite in one hand and the wrench in the other. These days I have to settle for a miller lite in both hands. Hope the old man is at home putting on all those new parts that I keep sending him. He doesn't know it yet but there is a bunch more stuff on the way.

Thanks everyone, my faith has been restored.
#1 Pony....I know how it is not to have a trainer. I had no trainer or experience when i bought my pony. I grabbed every kind of tech magazine or manual i could find. I spend countless hours on the internet learning whatever i could. And im sure there are many things that i still need to learn. There are times that im stuck and cant figure it out. And I take it personal when i need to call out a professional. But my mechanic will let me stand and watch or help me diagnose. Every bolt you turn is a experience. And nobody can teach you that, or every take that away.

On a side note, I was in the pro shop yesterday and a ricer comes in. He needed his rainguards (ventshades) installed on his windows....Thats bad, I offered to change his wiper blade for $20 LOL
