Post carb tuning

hey carb guys. I installed a brand new Edelbrock 1406 carb (600 CFM, elec choke, mechanical secondaries) on my project car. The car idles smooth, accelerates smooth, and smokes the tires like nobody's business. My problem is with part throttle operation. When I barely touch the gas while cruising, say on the highway or something, there is a slight stumble. If i give it more pedal, she is fine. You guys know what causes that?

Also, while I am on the subject of fuel, do you guys prefer electric or mechanical fuel pumps? I thought about getting rid of my Ford Racing piece, put a block off plate on the block, and run an aeromotive electric, along with bigger fuel lines and a regulator. What do you guys think?

I had the same problem. Same carb, the whole nine yards. It's an off idle lean spot. Other than that the carb works great.

I had to richen the carb up with a calibration kit. Try to richen mixture or back off timing.

You need smaller rods in the lean step.

I think that's a great idea. I'm about to do the same thing.(1/2" lines, elec pump, regulator).

I have ran both types.
Mechanical is reliable, but fuel heats up from engine heat transfer. Also draws small amount of horsepower.

Electric is $$$ and can crap out as my last one did, but draws very little HP or Heat.

Also put a filter before the pump to keep the dirt out of the pump.

BTW, nice times, 60 ft and good mph! That looks like a good run.

Yeah that run was last summer, with the old car. Same motor, but with a holley and a c-4. The stick in this car feels so much faster. The only way to truly know if it is fastewr is to get to the track, but Imust be patient. Still wintertime up here. Anywho, can't I adjust the air fuelk mixture right there on the carb? I had the hjolley, and there were two little screws, one on each side, and I would adjust air fuel there. Anything like that on the edelbrock?

I could never quite get it perfect.

You have .075X.047 metering rods. You could try a set of .070X.047. Also you have yellow springs(4" of vac. they go on the rich step) You could get pink springs(7" of vac.). You can try to richen the mixture screws. They have slotted idle ports for some off idle usefullness. They are on the front of the carb(Turn out for a richer mixture) The rods/springs are easy to do.(5 min. if your slow).

Me I got a holley. I think you wrote in another post you didn't like yours, but my edlebrock didn't like ram-air so I needed vac. secondarys. I was never a holley fan but mines new and it works awesome. Edlebrock should make some vac. sec. carbs.
