Exclamation Deadly little eight leggers all over the place!

Well, I got a new pet. Not your typical pet. Some people have cats (I got a few), some have dogs, some have reptiles, and some even have tarantula's...Well, I caught me an interesting pet.

Over the course of the last month, there have been a disturbing number of little eight legged creatures running around my house, garage, and yard. I have one of them for a pet now...Well I wouldnt call it a pet, Just say I have it in captivity. We killed two of them already this year, and Three of a diffrent species that are even more deadly.

3 Black Widows in the yard (2 dead), and I squashed 3 Brown Recluses (Got the 3rd one tonight) in the garage.

I find this frieghtining because I have a little sister who plays in the area that two of the Black Widows were found. None of us have ever seen a Black Widow or Brown Recluse till this month...Ever in our lives..and here were teaming with them now.

I've learned alot about them though, after killing the first black widow I started reading up on them and the other poisonous spiders that reside in the south. Some intersting things.

Because of my new found interest/curiosity, the 3rd black widow was captured and now resides in a plastic jar with breathing holes. I hate spiders with a burning pasion, but I find myself strangley fascinated by there beauty and design.

Has anyone else in the South seen a sudden out break of these spiders?? We also have about 20 of those yellow Garden Spiders (Harmless but ugly looking) hanging in our bushes.

I am definitely with you on this one. I hate spiders really frickin bad. Honestly, they scare the bahjesus outta me. Last summer, I found one live black widow in the corner of my garage and killed it (used about a half can of Raid on the bad boy, made sure it was good 'n dead), I also found a dead one just outside that corner of my garage in the driveway. I've never seen another one around the house anywhere. We don't have brown recluses here, those guys are pretty nasty too. We have a bunch of black widows at work hiding in and around the pallets of stuff outside. Gotta watch where you grab...

Is that true that daddy long legs (don't know "technical" name for them) are the most poisonous spiders, but they don't have fangs large enough to piece a human's skin?

I have about as much use for a spider as I do another hole in my head.

Black widows are preaty cool, I've only seen three in my life. Maybe they are spawing out to get the mosquitoes I hear about. Sorry, bad joke.

As for the thing about the daddy long legs, yes they are the most poisonous, and I think the Grand daddy long legs is too. But since the fangs are too small, they can't bite us, but whats scary is I did see one bite me, but it didn't inject the poison, I don't think he got all the way through though.

Our house was infested with black widows for a couple years! (outside, never inside) Finally after battling with them, we finally got them, and you rarely see them now! Good luck!!!

I'm only about 30 minutes from Fayetteville and I just killed three black widows last week. They were all in the crevices of my 20 month olds cars and toys outside. I am absolutely terrified of spiders, but I had to deal with them for my boys sake. I have seen many other types inside my house, it must have something to do with the extremelly dry weather.

I used to see black widows all the time in california they would hide out in behind wood and stuff. Can be scary if you don't pay attetion to what you are doing. Just step on them though no big deal.

As far as the daddy long legs that is not true it is just an old wives tale, and urban ledgened what ever you want to call it. There has never been any proof that they are the most posionous spiders. If you don't want to belive me here is the proof. http://spiders.ucr.edu/daddylonglegs.html

I Really REALLY hate spiders. I despise them. They are disgusting, ugly, and would eat you alive if they were big enough. YUCK.

Mercury eats spider casserole, haha

Well, I gave my new found pet some water, now I'm just trying to figure out how to feed him without getting myself bit.

The bites arent usually fatal like most believe. 1 out of 5000 is a fatality, its only a little lower number for brown recluses. But a bite from a Black Widow, and you got your self in a world of PAIN. Horrible Swelling, Intense Pain, IMMENSE PAIN from all that I've read, watched and heard. Most people are hospitalized for a few days, but they live.

The Brown Recluse has a nastier affect. Its "Venom" Eats away your flesh, disolves it, and will continue to do it if its not taken care of. And it will cause death. Yummy.

There nothing more I hate than Spiders and Roachs. Either one will usually have me running and screaming like a little girl, but my fear of spiders has been slowly dwindling over the last few years.

In West Texas ther are black widows and tarantulas everywhere I see them on a daily basis. Not to mention a butt load of scorpions.

I guess our climate is spider friendly.

When I was a kid we would put a black widow and a scorpion in the same bucket to see who would win. The scorpions are bad mofos they won every time against every spider of every kind.

Our prize fighting scorpion finaly ended up getting munched by a large praying mantis. He was just too far out of his weight class

Maybe I said too much

Default Just a thought

Pyrethrins, Cyfluthrin, Propethmpos, Hydroperne, Chlorpyrifos, or Deltamethrin will do the job!

Regardles of size my choice would be Permethrin @1.0% with a side of Hydroprene @ 0.060 % For thise pesky ones that can be seen indoors a lil blast of Cyfluthrin at windows and entryways will keep your home free of most occasional invaders.

Necrosis. Nice!
I've never actually seen a Recluse (to my knowledge), but isn't it a nice little fact to know that the average person eats 7 spiders while sleeping throughout there live? That's yummy too!

Dark_5.0 - very funny!

This thread is very disturbiing....! I have seen a black widow and a tarantula before but as a pet. I am so scared of spiders it's scary all of it's own. I was at a friends cottage and one jumped on and I freaked out, then some other one jumped on me and it looked like a mini crab I tried killing it but it would die (I HAVE NO IDEA?!?) It was pretty small but scary looking so I just ran inside. If I was living with Black widows and other deadly spiders, I would of purched a flame thrower, astro turfed my grass, and air sealed my house. But I'm glad I live in Canada, our spiders don't kill. God bless the coldness....

Well as I will be scared to sleep for a few hours take it easy all,
§am.

Talking

Ahhh, haaa haaaa. You guys had me laughing all the way through this thread .

Hg, to a point, I kinda don't like spiders either, but sometimes it's hard for me to just squish one, b/c I kinda respect them (although it's easy for me to smash a black widow or brown recluse that's around living quarters for safety reasons). Around where I live, every once in a while you'll see those yellow and black garden spiders. I had one in my back yard waaay in the back that had an awesome, very neat/symmetrical web. The spider was the biggest of these type I have ever seen. Lenght of body was about 2 inches long, very pretty, but intimidating spider. I would just sit there and watch it for up to 30 minutes one time. Once, I spent about 10 minutes cathcing a grasshopper and threw it in the web, DUde, that spider was no joke, it wrapped up the grasshopper quick. Truly amazing thing to witness.

Yesterday, I saw a spider that I have NEVER in my life b4 seen. It was very pretty. I had to pick it up on the end of the broom and look at it--very pretty! Body was about 3/4" long. It was a bright grass green color and had a very "friendly" type of abdomen, not big and round like a black widow but kinda pointed. It had little hairs on its legs. Actually, they were more like spines. Kinda made me think that if I touched them, it would hurt--those kind of "spines" that you'd see on cactus. Its whole body was that bright grass green color. Anyway, after I stared in awe at it for about 5 minutes, I gently put it back in the tall grass. I'd like to know what kind of spider that was.....

All in all, though, I can't say I really LIKE spiders, especially like black widows and brown recluses, I usually stomp them. But you know also, if a nature show comes on TV about spiders BAM! I'm there staring at the TV sucking in all the info, it's quite fascinating, really. We don't have many scorpions around here, at least I ain't never seen any. But I'd LOVE to see the fighting power of a scorpion-- one in action. That'd be cool to see a scorpion fight against a spider, I could definately see it win all the time too like previously mentioned, but few to none insects are any match for the mighty PRAYING MANTIS, boy those things are AWESOME! Especially the way that they can move their heads to turn and look at you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love 'em!

Unhappy

About 2 years ago I was at my father-in-laws house in SC and was bit by a black widow. Felt fine for about an hr or so. Then I had a deadly reaction to the bite. I was rushed to the hospital where my nervous system started to shut down. Thank God they had the anti-venoum there and I soon was released from the hospital. I am highly allergic to spider and other insect bites. We have lots of spiders and scopions in my house and we bomb for them quite often. I have always screamed like a small child when they a close to me. I AM TERRIFIED of ALL spiders. Yuck!! I only hope I am able to sleep now.

first off....i sleep on my stomach, so i doubt ill eat 7 spiders in my sleep in my lifetime..lol

and daddy long legs arent even really spiders! they dont spin webs...so technically you cant call it a spider...

fox body: its a green lynx spider...last week i came out to my car only to find an ugly SOB spider that was green and covered in spines....it had made it damn web between my trunk and wing! so i killed it good...lol...then looked it up online...harmless creature, but i guess i only saw a male (i think you did too)..the females are much bigger...

ugh, *shiver*....spiders are nasty creatures, but do eat pests!

Thanks jj_jonathon. From the pics I saw, it was a female that I saw, not a male.

But hey, what's up with this females eating males in the spider world???
