Post Shelby Clones

Has anyone here ever made a Shelby clone?
Anyone know where I can get information on doing making one? It seems like a very interesting project...
Also, I heard on a Ford Truck web site that you can make a 428CJ out of a 390 block. True? Anyone know how to?
Thanks, any info would help.

I know that a 428cj intake and heads will fit on the 390 block. Edelbrock has a preformer rpm package that works really well that u can put into a 390. All the parts are aluminum and u can win lots of races with it. If u are thinking about a 428cj need any help i will try and help u.

On the 428. I have read that you can take the truck 390 (shown as a 391), and have it bored to 428 specs. This will only work with the truck blocks because they were cast thicker than lighter duty units. The engine can then be fitted with a 428 crank. As the above post said you can also swap heads, intake, etc. Alternatively, you could put a 428 crank in a 390, I think you get a 406.

So let me get this straight... I could get a 390..say out of an old f250. Bore it out to 428 and put a 428 crank in it and I'll basically have a 428cj? And I could use all the after market 428cj heads and stuff on it?
Sorry if I need it Barney style, all this is really new to me. Thankyou for your help, Thunderbolt and 69fastback.
