Cobra vs. GT
If you all had a choice between buying a brand new 2001 GT or a 1995 Cobra with 19,000 miles on it, with mods. For about the same price the cobra being a little less. What would you go for.
My friends are telling me the new GT but I dont know the. What do you guys say. Thanks |

Vortech supercharger, $15,000 of extras, 470 rear wheel HP, racing slicks, and more... That is what they say. |
Ummmmm let see, I need a minute to think about that...
NOT! I'd take the Cobra! Do know how much faster that Cobra would be! I guess the 2001 GT would be new and have a warranty and all that, but if I had a choice it would be the COBRA ------------------ 1995 Mustang GT |
depends what do you plan on doing with the car?
if you wanna race get the cobra you want reliability and warranty with some decent power then go with the new car. |
NOT EVEN CLOSE

Thats the only thing that I have trouble with the cobra. Its a 95' with ONLY 19,000 that just sounds fishy. Also I dont know if it was ran to the ground or not. If I new the owner then it would be know problem I would take the cobra any day but that is not the case. So I dont know what to do. Any other input?? Big toss up... Thanks |
IMO, get the GT. It's new, got a warranty, and that great new car smell. I can almost guarantee that with the mods the cobra has, it's been driven hard. Also, half the fun of owning a stang is deciding how you want to mod it, and what direction you want to go with it. The cobra is already modded to **** , and therefore wouldnt be so fun to personalize, you know?

I completely agree with StoplightWarrior on this one. Before I ordered my 2001, I was looking at 94-96 Cobra's and even looked at some 87-93 GT's. I ended up ordering a new GT because it will have less than 10 miles on it and have a warranty. The fun part about owning a Mustang is being able to customize it with the mods you want. I like to start with a stock canvas and create something that I will enjoy. Buying a Mustang already modded (especially that heavily) takes some of teh fun out of owning one. Anyone can buy a 11 or 10 sec machine but it will give you more satisfaction to build it up yourself. But then again, that's just my opinion.

If your pretty young, your insurance will be alot higher on a cobra than the GT. Yeah sometimes the real mod'ed cars scare people away, I think you should go test drive both of them. 19,000 miles is really low for a 95. That is 3,166 miles a year. But hey it could happen. Later. =P

If you mod the new GT, are you going to do it or get a mechanic to do it? $$$ to consider...
If you choose to mod the new GT, some mods will void the warranty I believe, like a supercharger. I've read before (here) where Ford dealerships wont touch modded cars needing warranty work. But, like the other guys said, the Cobra may be ragged out. On the other hand, the guy who owns it may need to get rid of it for financial reasons and it could be a good deal. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/cool.gif ------------------ 1997 Black Cobra Convertible. #2788 of 3088 Mostly Stock - Vortech Anyone? 1988 5.0 LX Convertible -Work Car...Few Mods. |

GONZO99TA, hit the nail on the head.
What do you REALLY want? Peace of mind with the new car and it's warranty or neck-snapping, tire eating speed? ------------------ '91 LX, T-5, Centerforce Dual Friction, FMS adjustable cable w/quadrant, 3:55's(not installed yet), ported/polished/milled E7 heads, 1.6rr, 1.94/1.60 stainless valves, March Performance Pulleys and A/C Eliminator, short belt, K&N, battery in trunk, glasspacks w/turndowns, 225/50/16 Re 730's |
If it were me, i'd go for the new GT. This is my reasoning: If that guy has modded the cobra, chances are he's driven the holy piss out of it. You also never know how well the modifications were done, what shortcuts may have been taken and where and when they'll come to bite you in the @ss, etc. etc. If the cobra were perfect i'd say hell yeah, get the cobra. But unfortunately this world can be very corrupt. Another question you gotta ask yourself is, why would somebody put a LOT of money modded a VERY awesome newer car with very low mileage and then decide to get rid of it or sell it. Do you know why the previous owner (if it's a private seller or a dealer) wants to get rid of it. Too many questions about the Cobra,
that's why i'd get the GT. Plus the new GT's are pretty damn fast anyway and look awesome. Good luck on your decision. ------------------ previous name: 84stangLX '84 Mustang 5.0 LX my LX '89 Mustang GT my GT |
