Crapaque Computer Question: Help!
AS MOST OF YOU KNOW, MY PC SUCKS. If I owned a gun, I'd have put a bullet in it LONG AGO!!!! ok, heres my latest dilemma.....
I have been missing some WINDOWS files that acc. got deleted. I got my hands on a disk from one of the Cobra Club members...it would not complete the install after 3 tries a few weeks ago. The blue screening is getting worse, and the locking up. ALTHOUGH...I did manage to install the Virus Scan again, and it has looked like its functioning again completely!!!!! ( ) I'm no longer getting the ERROR: part of my V-shield is missing, and its all lit up like its working! I deleted my temp. files and cleared out my cookies the other night. Did a Scan Disk on my hard drive, it found errors and corrected them. I did a DEFRAG last night. Thinking maybe that some problems in my sectors was preventing the Windows from Downloading. I have not tried to reinstall it yet. It has since crashed and locked up MORE and I just shut the whole damn thing...and I'm thinking...I'm prolly creating even MORE bad sectors, but theres no other way to get out of locked. ALSO....what is the file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CRTDLL.DLL ??????????????? Its saying its missing???????????? do ya'll think I need to do ANOTHER SCAN DISK or should I just try to download Windows again........ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhggggghhhhhhhhh THANKS FOR THE INPUT..... TNT Terrorized In Texas |
Do you have a cd burner? Back up onto disk all the files you think you want off the crapaq, and make a start up disk.
F-disk the whole mother and start over from scratch. It will be a hassle to reinstall all the programs you have on it now, but they will work when you're done. Let me know if you're interested and I'll email you the procedures. |

Deuce:
yikes:eek:.....ya know...I"ve never ever done a back up b4. Prolly should...If I lose all my pics I would die...I've got 100's on here. Got a burner....I think I might try to download Windows one more time and see how it does...do you have any idea what that 'file' is thats missing and what it goes to? Just curious! Can 'program files' be backed up? Dont know if I"ll mess w/ it tonight...still got some Ebay to tend to. Ya, I have the Quick Restore, but I know it will wipe out EVERYTHING and put it back to the way it was when I bought it...Thats what the Comp USA people did last year and did not back up like they were told and I lost EVERYTHING! thanks for the input...I might just do that, but never backing up before, I want to make sure that I get EVERYTHING I want backed up....if you want, you can email me procedure, in laymans terms...and if worse comes to worse, I will try to takle it this weekend if I cannot get it to accept the Windows download. Arent you supposed to be 'out of' all programs and shut down as much as possible when you down load it? Do you think I need to run another Scan Disk, or you think its okay since I did it a couple of days ago, even though its crashed a few times since????? TNT |
I second Deuce's answer. This will solve your problem.
Copy the files/pictures you want to save to CD. Then FDISK the drive if necessary (You may not have to do this to use the restore disk) but I would recommend it anyway. Finally run the system restore disk. To answer your question. Yes program files can be backed up but why? You only need to backup what you want to save. Program files mostly consist of files needed by the various programs installed on your computer which are needed to run programs. They will be reinstalled clean when the system restore disk is run, however, if you added any programs you will have to reinstall them. There are other things you might want to save like email, address books, internet explorer bookmarks or contact lists. Just some things to think about. Hope this helps more than confuses. |
Where's PKRWUD's smartas_s response? I was looking for a 'Ditch that PC and buy a Mac!' or some such thing. j/k :D :D
Just trying to be funny. (I guess it's not working, huh?) Take it easy, E |
