Every car that I own is a standard. I don't think I would purchase a car that was an automatic.

C-4

Mine is a C-4 with a 2500 RPM stall convertor and a B&M shift kit. I figure it does cost me 25-30 HP compared to a stick shift though.

Doh.. sorry you're absolutely right!

Well I feel kinda like an outcast now. I just never was very good at driving sticks I guess :( I tried on a couple friends cars and always had problems starting off in first. Once I passed first though I dont usually have problems. I guess it just takes getting used to and I didnt have the patience to want to learn. Maybe if I raced cars I'd like a stick. I suppose I'm missing out on a lot of fun, apparently.

I love my 5 speed. I looked for a mustang specifically with a 5 speed. Sometimes I go and drive for an hour or two, just to drive it. I love the control I get with a five speed. I can tell what the engine is doing and how fast i'm going just by the feel and sound of the car.

Driving my 5 speed stang on a long windy road is my favorite thing to do. In fact I want to go do it right now!!

joe4speed 04-28-2003 08:59 PM

I have both as well...
I don't think I'd have had as much fun as I have in my Stang if it was an auto.
My daily driver is an auto, an d it's a beautiful thing when I'm stuck in traffic 4 days a week.

Crazy Horse GT 04-28-2003 09:40 PM

well i have my first auto in years, i like it when im highway racing, if i kick it right, it downshift's 2 gears . ;) :D :D :D bye bye stick lol. :p :D :D :D :D

So what do you mean exactly you drive it like a stick? Starting out in 1st then drive? Beating it in 1? :p

basically ill kick around in D....sometimes i take off from 1, powershift into D then let off after the squeeling...lol...i downshift into D from OD a lot...just makes it sounder and more fun...i know its prolly killing the tranny, but at least i dont do the ol' 1-2-1...the thing takes off just as fast in OD as in 1st but its more fun in 1st....got shift it up just right though cuz its delayed...wait too long and youll really get a clunk  lol

stangs with autos arent as fun, but theyre still mustangs ...sometimes its nice to be able to eat and drive :D...

Sicy Stang 04-28-2003 11:28 PM

Ok so question.. I always start in D and when I get on the freeway switch to OD.. isnt that what you're supposed to do? Because once I get to like 50mph the car feels like its straining to drive but once I switch over to OD its like the car goes "ahhhhhhhhhhh".

Sorry if that sounded lame..

Crazy Horse GT 04-29-2003 01:49 AM

no, on the highway, when you feel that power let down, your actualy saving your engine & tranny, no big, i can still cruise with the big boy's in od, that's what i was talking about, if i stomp it hard enough it will downshift twice = i win , they suck . lol. :D :D :D :D

Motor Trend tested my auto two tenths faster to 60 MPH than the six-speed, but then mine's not a Mustang. I don't know how the auto and stick compare in them.

Sicy Stang 04-29-2003 03:02 PM

Sometimes I've noticed, when play racing off the line on the street.. I will usually beat them.. while they're taking the time to shift :p

i know the chevy autos lose about the power as the 6speed...dunno about pontiac, but i bet its close to the same numbers....but ford makes an auto that loses like 20% of the power...its lame..lol

1969Mach1 04-30-2003 08:08 AM

I love standard... although my Pace Car is an auto. =( My Mach 1 was a 4 speed and loved it. And I drive my dad's t-bird which is 5 speed any chance he'll let me. I standard to have so much more response. And it's always good to wave by to ricers when you down shift and gun it. :D :D :D

Just bought the car about a month ago and really wanted a stick, but just no luck. Couldn't find any in the lower MI area at all. Ended up w/auto which isn't all that bad...I smoke too so it frees a hand I guess. ;)

If thier built right like mine, thier even better..:)

I LOVE MY STICK!

Man, I love my stick! I love to downshift coming up to lights, cuz the exaust rumbles so much..also, its easier to lay into it from a dead stop. But, its hell on my cigarettes...gets ashes everywhere. I try to be careful...but it aint easy.

BUT...I like racing an auto at the track...its a no brainer, you dont have to think as much, having to watch the tach, watch where your going and shift at the same time. Just dont cover the break like its the clutch, I did that w/ Moms2K's at Cecil County, and shes like, "why are the brake lights on going down the track?" Still ran a 13 somthing though... duh!:p
