Do you drive a....
Stick or automatic?
I know I'm probly like the only person here that drives an automatic  I dunno I just dont want to have to think too much when I'm driving. I like to smoke and do other things and not have to constantly be shifting, especially in traffic. |
i have one too...
although i was looking for a 5speed, i settled for an auto...i drive it like its a stick though even though i shouldnt...at some point ill do a stall conv. and a shift kit...then itll be happy :) |
Yay I'm not the only one http://www.bostonblueyes.com/smilies/hyper.gif
So what do you mean exactly you drive it like a stick? Starting out in 1st then drive? Beating it in 1? :p |
I drive 2 automatics so dont fret.. I love em.. if you drive them right there just as much fun as a stick car. I mean drive them right as in shift it manually of course :D What fun is there in letting it do all the work??

5 Speed is the only way to go for me on my Mustang. I like the control, and shifting when I want. I really only drive the car on sunny weekend days anyways, all my work commuting and errans and daily grunt work is done with my 02 Ranger. The Stang is just a sunny day cruising car now, it doesn't see any parking lots or weather.
|
Well I guess someone needs to teach me how to have fun in my car. I usually baby her.. cuz I want her to last a long time.
Well, except when I see a ricer  :p |

Well I dunno! I've never used first gear http://66.227.101.70/otn/confused/shrug03.gif

You really don't need it in a automatic. I had a friend who had a firebird, The car was an automatic, and he manualy shifted. It tore the gear box up. Its really not meant to be used like that, once in a while is fine. |
Well that's what I thought. http://mysmilies.creativesell.net/co.../corkysm78.gif

I'd hardly call it a mustang with an Automatic ;)

This is just me, but I wouldn't even look at a Mustang with an auto, unless it is in a strip only car. Auto's take all the fun out of driving them. I love to drop to second at 45, chirp the tires and go on to bang third. Maybe it's just me, but I love shifting. I've been able to drive manual since I was 14 so basically I don't even think about shifting anymore. But to each their own, a Mustang with an Auto is still a Mustang, I just hate the parasitic energy they take:) ~Brian

I guess the old mach 1's and the boss mustangs with c6 trannyies arent really mustangs then:rolleyes:

My mistake. The Boss 429 is that one that had an optional auto, the Boss 302, like you said, was strictly a 4-speed car.
|
You should've put a #3 in the poll to be Both. :)
My street/strip 351W-powered '79 Mustang is an auto (C4). My everyday street 302-powered 92 GT is a manual. |
Every car that I own is a standard. I don't think I would purchase a car that was an automatic.
|
C-4
Mine is a C-4 with a 2500 RPM stall convertor and a B&M shift kit. I figure it does cost me 25-30 HP compared to a stick shift though.

Well I feel kinda like an outcast now. I just never was very good at driving sticks I guess :( I tried on a couple friends cars and always had problems starting off in first. Once I passed first though I dont usually have problems. I guess it just takes getting used to and I didnt have the patience to want to learn. Maybe if I raced cars I'd like a stick. I suppose I'm missing out on a lot of fun, apparently. |
I love my 5 speed. I looked for a mustang specifically with a 5 speed. Sometimes I go and drive for an hour or two, just to drive it. I love the control I get with a five speed. I can tell what the engine is doing and how fast i'm going just by the feel and sound of the car.
Driving my 5 speed stang on a long windy road is my favorite thing to do. In fact I want to go do it right now!!   |
I have both as well...
I don't think I'd have had as much fun as I have in my Stang if it was an auto. My daily driver is an auto, an d it's a beautiful thing when I'm stuck in traffic 4 days a week. |
well i have my first auto in years, i like it when im highway racing, if i kick it right, it downshift's 2 gears . ;) :D :D :D bye bye stick lol. :p :D :D :D :D

stangs with autos arent as fun, but theyre still mustangs ...sometimes its nice to be able to eat and drive :D... |
Ok so question.. I always start in D and when I get on the freeway switch to OD.. isnt that what you're supposed to do? Because once I get to like 50mph the car feels like its straining to drive but once I switch over to OD its like the car goes "ahhhhhhhhhhh".
Sorry if that sounded lame.. |
no, on the highway, when you feel that power let down, your actualy saving your engine & tranny, no big, i can still cruise with the big boy's in od, that's what i was talking about, if i stomp it hard enough it will downshift twice = i win , they suck . lol. :D :D :D :D
|
Motor Trend tested my auto two tenths faster to 60 MPH than the six-speed, but then mine's not a Mustang. I don't know how the auto and stick compare in them.
|
Sometimes I've noticed, when play racing off the line on the street.. I will usually beat them.. while they're taking the time to shift :p

I love standard... although my Pace Car is an auto. =( My Mach 1 was a 4 speed and loved it. And I drive my dad's t-bird which is 5 speed any chance he'll let me. I standard to have so much more response. And it's always good to wave by to ricers when you down shift and gun it. :D :D :D

Just bought the car about a month ago and really wanted a stick, but just no luck. Couldn't find any in the lower MI area at all. Ended up w/auto which isn't all that bad...I smoke too so it frees a hand I guess. ;)

AUTOMATICS RULE!
If thier built right like mine, thier even better..:) |
I LOVE MY STICK!
Man, I love my stick! I love to downshift coming up to lights, cuz the exaust rumbles so much..also, its easier to lay into it from a dead stop. But, its hell on my cigarettes...gets ashes everywhere. I try to be careful...but it aint easy.
BUT...I like racing an auto at the track...its a no brainer, you dont have to think as much, having to watch the tach, watch where your going and shift at the same time. Just dont cover the break like its the clutch, I did that w/ Moms2K's at Cecil County, and shes like, "why are the brake lights on going down the track?" Still ran a 13 somthing though... duh!:p TNT :D |

Ya, I can laugh about it now, but it was pretty embarrassing at the time! :o

When I raced my automatic, i still had to watch the tach, watch where I was going and shift. I shifted mine manually though, and used the tach as a quide to shift points. My automatic was moddified for this type of abuse though.......anyway, Im rambling because Im bored......later |
hey stranger!
LOL....hey Mach...good to 'see' you....maybe thats why I"m on my second clutch?
I didn't watch sh.. when I raced her car. Other than making sure I kept it straight. Dont really know how to 'shift' an automatic! lol....sad, huh? :( Catching up on a few emails...thinking bout hitting the sheets. good to cya! Take Care.. CC :) |
Stick... I've had auto's before though :p
