DYNO RESULTS !!!! :)
Well I took my car into be dynoed today and I am very please with the results. It was on a Mustang dyno, so I dont know how exactly that plays into things.
I ran the car on 87 OCTANE just like I do on the street. Also I have RAM AIR which isn't working on a dyno. First run, hot off the free way was 292.6@5500 RWHP !! And 323.1@3750 RWTQ! He said my car was running rich and we went down to less fuel pressure. We only adjusted the timing from 15 to 16, and he said 16 is perfect fo this car and we never went any higher. All said and done came out with 332.1 RWHP! @5500rpm And 351 RWTQ @3750 RPM! The guy was pretty impressed for a low compression motor with Performer intake and E-303 cam. With a better cam and higher revving intake Im sure I could get more power cuz it peaked at only 5500! He said figure 18-20% loss for the manual trans so taking the low side of that. 18% thats 405 horsepower at the crank! and 428 ft/lb of torque ! The torque curve is pretty flat. With 275 lb of torque at 1900 rpm and holding above 300 from 2700 to 5250. I'm really exciting, and I can't believe how much power this made!! Added Eibach drag launch springs and 70/30's w/ 50/50's. 0-110MPH In car view (963k) All Throttle through 3 gears! (497k) <A HREF="http://members.aol.com/lskymanl/burnout.mpg" TARGET=_b |

Man I bet you are glad you never came up to race me! Cause I still had more hp with my old setup!
Glad you finally got it tuned,, so you can put an end to the problems you have been having. Hopefully my dyno run this Saturday will have the same effect. That is, if the car is runnign well enough to go on the dyno. I don't know what to say about these numbers?!?!
First, 330+RWHP on a mustang dyno with your relatively mild combo is almost unbelievable?!?! BTW, a mustang dyno takes into account real world driving conditions such as wind drag, type of road, tire resistance, etc. So, your numbers would actually be HIGHER on a "non-mustang" dyno. Second, you picked up 30RWHP with a dyno tune?!?! I have always believed that a dyno tune was the perfect finishing touch to getting the most out of a combo. I guess this helps prove that. I'm anxious to hear about your new 1/4 mile times. I would almost expect a 110mph trap speed (or very, very close to it) with your nubmers. Well guys thanks a ton. I am shocked as anyone else. Everyone on corral is telling me I'm a BSer and that these numbers are impossible. I think I'm going to have to scan the dyno sheets to prove it to these guys. They a much more hostile crowd than here.
I should see 110+ at the track. Skyler ------------------ -1989 Saleen Mustang #406- TFS Heads, E-303, edelbrock intake,70MM TB, 73mm MAF, off road H, 2 1/4" exhaust, and 4.10's. 332RWHP@5500 351RWTQ@3750 Runs on 87 Octane! |

I saw your post on corral.net and I too noticed all of the hostility towards your hp claims. To be quite honest, the numbers (especially the post-tuneup 320+RWHP on a mustang dyno) seems high. I can buy the 290RWHP, though.
Despite this, however, I think everyone should keep their mouths shut and wait till you get some good mph numbers in the 1/4 mile. Only then I feel is it truly fair to critique the dyno numbers. ------------------ Jeff Kane 1990 LX Mustang ex-5.0 Coupe No engine. No transmission. I agree but those guys are just plain jerks it seems like. I am being as nice as possible about it all but they jsut wont buy it. DO you guys think the dyno could be off? I'm starting to wonder now. Well we'll find out on the 24th at the track.

Typical reaction for that group over there. they just don't want to beleive that someone can put together a great running engine without a stroker or running a custom cam , Those are good number sky, don't let them get you down and start doubting them at all.

i know what the problem is skyman.......you can't read very well, and the numbers actually read 232 RWHP, and 251 RWTQ....
No need to thank me for helping you out man! Have a good one. ------------------ '86 GT. Gears & Flows |

Well I don't really agree that his dyno numbers seem high. I new from the start that he had at least 314rwhp...or was capable of it. You have to understand that his motor is extremely unusual... it would take 22° timing and NOT ping... any other motor would detonate like an Atom bomb.
My buddy will receive more HP than that out of his 302 with slightly ported AFR 165 heads, custom cam (.560 intake lift .565 exhaust lift), Weiland Stealth intake, and a 750 carb. He should easily make 350rwhp with just a N/A 302. Thats about 50hp less than my blown 302! ------------------ 1994 Mustang Cobra 308ci, Vortech S-trim 11#, ported GT-40 heads, E-303 cam, FMS 1 5/8 headers, BBK Offroad H-pipe, 2-chamber flows, and several other goodies. wow i really don't know what to say.
351 RWTQ @3750 RPM! is like.. the highest tq figure i have ever seen for a motor like this. seems almost unbelievable to me. but i am obviously not calling you a liar. look at exgmguys car. he is running ported heads, same cam as you i think, not sure what else. he makes 270rwhp tuned with similar compression. granted he probably makes closer to 300 now, where is the 30hp coming from? btw if you put your motor on an engine dyno i would not expect it to dyno any higher than 375-385hp. (of course you could do engine dyno tricks and probably pick it up) the drivetrain loss cannot be reliably predicted using a percentage. given the same rpm window it is a fixed number. i've seen some built 302s dynoed, and these cars were putting up 340-350rwhp on a dynojet and less torque than that with much higher compression (one with pistons and rods, worked trickflows and close to 11:1 makes over 350rwhp now but i haven't seen it in person.) if you took some good ported trick flows or some 165cc afrs with a little work w/ 10.5:1 and a larger cam i would expect 330ish rwhp with a 5spd stock rear and reasonable gears. and this motor would definitely make more rwhp than tq, peaking higher. definitely makes me curious. if this dyno is telling the truth i think your dream will finally come true after what, atleast a year? 110mph trap speeds, lol |
