Post Explorer 302s

To my understanding Ford no longer makes 302 blocks and the such. Then where are they getting the Explorer engines? They are oviously OHV five liter V-8s with coil packs instead of a distributer. Now my most important question. WHY AREN'T THESE IN THE MUSTANG!!!!!!!!!

They are no longer making the 302 in the Explorer. The last one rolled off of the assembly line at the beginning of the year. They are due for a new motor soon, but not sure what it will be. I am pretty sure that it will be something with over head cams though.

I realize that there are a lot more and cheaper aftermarket parts for the 5.0, but stock for stock I'll take the 4.6 anytime (I have a 5.0 and a 4.6). Revs alot smoother, more top end...

The 4.6L is what is replacing the 5.0. With a cam in the Explorer, the 4.6L doesn't have more top end than the Explorer 5.0. Better reverse that.

The Explorer comes with GT-40 lower, Explorer upper (nearly the same as the Cobra, and GT-40P heads. If you put an E-cam in that truck it would seriously outmuscle even the new 4.6L GT's. Tuned right with a decent MAF and computer you'll put the 260hp GT at a 40+hp disadvantage. On a Mustang those parts are cabable of over 300hp.

Ford of Australia still produces 5.0L engines. They also are rated at 246 hp, have the GT40P heads, explorer style intake and the cobra cam, they'll probably build them for another 5 years and they use them in the Australian version of a Ranchero!
