Been there done that. I used to work at a Ford dealership. Its pretty cool. Good luck with it. You should make some good money, probably lots of warranty work though.

bandit you're totally right, it's nearly all warranty work. I work at a dealer now and it's pretty fun, i get to work on fords ALL DAY LONG, although it's mostly explorers and other 4x4 wagons, but i occasionally get to work on a Roush stang, Lightning or Cobra (even regular GT's are fun to work on). I also HATE the Super Duty trucks, god those suck......sorry i'm rambling. CONGRADULATIONS REDLILPONY! Welcome to the Ford family http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif!

Hey '84 the superduty is where the money is at. The guy that I worked with at Ford that did all the heavyline work with the superduties made a lot of money/hours. Anyways now I am rambling, so later http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif.

84LX89GT 08-03-2001 01:55 AM

you're right bandit there is money in those trucks, but everything about them is "super duty" (huge). The guy who does heavyline stuff in my shop get ALOT of money, but he passes up alot of the superduty's because it takes alot of effort to manuever a transmission and transfer case, and driveshaft that easily outweigh you two fold. I'm a small guy myself and want to get more into engine repair and drivability because you don't have to really manuever anything huge, not only that but the chances of having something large fall on you or roll onto you are alot less if you stay away from it http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif . Basically there are 3 huge money makers in the shop: the "alignment/suspension specialist" the "heavyline specialist" who mostly does transmissions and then there's another guy who does alot of heavyline stuff, but here's more into the Superdutys and trucks and makes quite a bit of money. Alot of guys make good money replacing engines (an unbelievable amount of 3.8L's fail) and they have it down to a science.....once again rambling http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

You'll love workin there. I worked at a much smaller Ford dealership where I live and it was great. Can I put my order in now or do I need to wait till tommorrow but noe later than mon. please. I worked in the parts department and loved it. I now one thing I HAD the hook up while I was there. 25% off all parts. I was like "hell yeah". Anyway good luck and have fun.

Is it a Blue Oval certified dealer? If it is then you definetly have some pretty good benefits. Good luck Jodi

yea, it's pretty cool working for a dealer. I do the drivability and electrical work. service writers have alot of stress, so don't let the crazy customers get you too worked up http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif I get all ford parts at 10% above cost http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif which accounts for most of my mods! see the sig. Ford can be real good http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gifenjoy the new job and good luck!

Bandit -
I wish i lived in S. Florida, then i'd go hang out with you guys, but i don't http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif . I live way up in Seattle, Washington. Crappy traffic, crappy weather and crappy drivers....lotsa fun!

Pony_Power - I get 10% above the cost of parts and the markup is usually rather large so i get a good deal as well. For a customer to buy a outer door handle (drivers side) i think it's around $60 at my dealership, but for me it's $30 http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif , i get quality motorcrafts parts now all the time and it's only a little more expensive than going to a schucks (checker's) auto supply store.
