Exclamation Database Server Issue - Bare with me!

The motherboard in one our two dedicated database servers started dying a couple days ago and it's been causing problems. I traced it down to the motherboard over the past several hours, and therefore have moved operations completely to the other box so things should run smoothly now. The motherboard will hopefully be replaced later today and then we'll have both our dedicated database servers humming again.

Just thought I'd let everyone know in case you've had trouble getting on recently or seen error messages concerning the pages not being able to connect to our database.

Default Thanks Dan

Thanks for the info Dan. I always wonder when I can't get on. I'm personally glad that it's just a technical glitch. However, I know it's a PITA to you .

Yeah, and what a pain in the butt it's been too so far. I picked up a motherboard today across town and ripped the thing apart to replace it. Now, the system won't boot at all. Don't that figure. So... either the MoBo I just bought is bad (in fact, I have a suspicion the local computer shop I picked it up at actually gave me a USED board and sold it to me as new! ). So, now I have to rip it completely back apart and run back across town yet again tomorrow to exchange it or something. Oh well, the databases are running ok on the other box for now and it won't hurt anything...

Any ways, I'll have to bring down the operational DB Server tonight so I can do a couple things more on the troubleshooting side. I'm going to swap processors just to double check it's not a CPU problem. Everything will probably be down about an hour while I do it. It'll be in the wee hours though so it will have minimal impact on everyone.

Ugh... I need more sleep.

Default Sorry for the extra effort

I'm just glad that you know how to fix it. We all appreciate the effort that goes into maintaining the site. I've seen you struggle with it over the years and I can only imagine the effort and expense that it requires.

Hmm, did I miss it being down? It's 3.30 am there, so I may have. Dang, I need some sleep. This is the latest I've been up in a while.

Dan-o. Hope you get it figure out. I hate having to rip my CPU's apart.

Thanks guys...

Yeah, I took down the boxes at 4:30 this morning... I pulled the CPU and memory from the dead box and moved the CPU and memory from the other DB Server to it. I also have a brand new power supply in it and I've tested the other components in another box. Won't even boot, so this motherboard they gave me is obviously DOA. Errrr....
