They suck, but at least it is getting warmer out. Then I can get my bike out......50 + miles per gallon will help me out quite a bit !

What are the gas prices where everyone else lives right now? The gas station by my house has been fluctuating between $1.60 and $1.80 per gallon lately.

Lightbulb Gas is a bargain

I pay about $1.80 for Sunoco Ultra.

Gas prices are up for a lot of reasons. The demand is very high due to a bad winter almost everywhere (using much more heating oil) while supplies are down because the gas/oil companies didn't foresee the demand being what it turned out to be. They also had a break in some major pipeline which took out a lot of the supply for a time, adding to the shortage. This is not untypical and eventually the prices will go back down some. In fact we're paying about the same percentage of our income for gas that our parents did 40 years ago.

In 1963, the minimum wage was $1.15 and gas cost about 30 cents per gallon. It took one hour of minimum-wage work to buy about 4 gallons of gas back then. Now, the federal minimum wage is $5.15 per hour but it's actually $6.90 in my state (CT) and gas is about $1.75 per gallon. It takes one hour of minimum wage work in my state to buy 4 gallons of gas, about the same as it took 40 years ago. It's all relative. 20 years ago, in 1983, gas cost $1.25 per gallon. Now, although our incomes have risen, the price of gas has not kept pace and although it appears as if gas prices have gone way up, in reality, they haven't.

for the past 7-8 years i've only used mobil regular gas and every 5 tanks or so i put in mobil special for the detergents....it's gotten so bad that i've near run out of gas because i refuse to put anything else in my tank!

and because of this i haven't looked at gas prices in the last 7-8 years because it's not like i'm gonna go across the street if it's 2 cents cheaper, because i ONLY use mobil! actually one day a few years ago....i happened to notice a new no-name gas station right across the street from a mobil was selling gas for $.70 for like a 4 hour period to get in customers....i still went to mobil and paid something like $1.31 for 11 gallons of gas...oh well I guess I could have saved $6-7 but I just couldn't do it.....maybe i have an obsession! hahahaha

my whole point though is that i couldn't tell you what the gas prices are over here in Fall River, Massachusetts--sorry

I found some 'cheap' gas last night.

Exxon:
87- $1.99
89- $2.07
91- $2.17

That was way better than the Mobil by the freeway, at

87- $2.27
89- $2.37
91- $2.47

Notice, the best we've got out here in CA is 91, unless you pony ouf $6.00 for 100!

So are we.

The bad news is it's going to hit $3.00 a gallon this summer. Actually, based on the current prices on the oil/gasoline futures, it's going to reach $3.25 a gallon by July, maybe higher.

That's still a bargain.

Take care,
~Chris

Mike, I'm not sure why you guys in OC are getting raped, but it's $1.79 in Oxnard.

Just about anything regular goes 1.90-2.00 up here in washington and 93 octane goes 2.10-2.20......which sucks because the jeep gets 3 mpg less than the 'stang...more initiative to get over the flu and fix my car

Yeah, I can't wait to be working normal hours and have the energy to ride my bike and save gas $.

As it stands now, I'm not coherent enough to be behind the wheel of my car half the time.
