I just go wherever I'm close to (which is usually Amoco or Phillips 66) and get their highest ratied gas (91 or 93). I'm one of those people who waits too damn long to fill my tank so by the time I need gas, I really NEED gas.

Mustangbelle306 04-08-2001 01:35 PM

in the owner's manual???

I lost mine, but check again. I'm almost postive it says 87 for the V6 and GT, and 93 for Cobra.

I have a 94 GT, and 87 worked fine with stock timing.

Well if you dont need high octane theres no use in running it... Matter of fact your losing power.

I run nothing but the DIRT Cheapest 87 octane in my car. Nothing even name brand. Same thing I run at the track. Crap cheap 87 octane. Runs mid 12's and get 24mpg. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

OK... what the heck is Sunoco???? I have never ever ever heard of that.

I run Chevron with techron (heehee http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif) Plus for my 99 and Super with lead additives for my 68.

Ohhh, if you ever happen to be driving through Tomball, Texas... DO NOT stop at Smitty's Gas Station... it's food poison for your car!

I run lawnmower gas! Yeah, the dirt cheap 87. I have the timing set at 20, and it runs flawless with 87. Duno why but with my mods it's still fine... I might try some CAM2 out sometime too and see how that works.

red82gt 04-09-2001 03:01 AM

Man, My car a finiky B!tch, pings like heck if I put anything less than 92 octane, I guess that's the price for 10.5:1 compression and Iron heads with only 13 degrees of timing.

Run Sunoco 94 octane in both cars - the 10.5:1 compresssion in the 65 requires it and I run 15 degrees of initial timing in the 87 and it pings on anything less. One advantage I have cost wise is, both cars are basically weekend drivers only and do not see a lot of miles during the course of a year.

he is 100% right..anyone using higher octane than they need is wasting thier $$$..the higher the octane the more chemicals are put in it to lower combustion chamber temputure witch lowers pretetination or detination due to very high timing advance..this is exelent for turbo/nos/blowers/ or extreme compression..ive seen people run 11:1 on the street with 87 octane..so unless you have a detination problem you are prolly going slower than you could be becasue you are reducing combustion chamber temp and not burning off the fuel you could be..just becasue its 87 doesnt mean its bad quality..quality varios from gas station to gas staion..i only use sunoco or moble 87..
