Way to go Josh! Man, I don't know how you've been able to deal with a dial-up all this time!!! In January it will be 3 years that I've had DSL, and if I had to get rid of it for some reason, my days online would be over.
Gnarly. :D Take care, ÅChris |

I love college networks. The 1mb test loaded in 1.578 seconds. 5070K! and I just remembered I'm downloading at the moment.
|
I got 1,000,000 bytes in 8.202 seconds.
This is like online nerd dragracing. :D :D :D But I love it. lol I think I would get abit lower cause I havn't restarted in like over a week, + I got tons of **** open. I was downloading at school the other day at 3.8mb/sec. I have no idea how it got those speeds, it wasn't off cache cause it was a fresh image on the pc. I wasn't even aware the harddrives could write that fast cause I believe they are just 7200rpm drives. It was pretty sweet downloading 100mb file in a few seconds. :D :D §am. **EDIT** I think I did the wrong one maybe, I selected the other one and Loaded 1,000,000 bytes in 6.75 seconds. :D |

Sam, just thought I should point out that the file is 1,000,000 bytes, which works out to 1MB. Not 100MB. You were right about todays hard drives though, they have a sustainded transfer rate of about 20-40MB/sec or so depending on the quality. Most software is designed to work around such limitations, for example, by storing it in memory until it can be written. Which would allow you to d/l at higer speeds than your hd can write until your memory is full.
Now I really feel like a nerd. |
