Default Had wisdom teeth removed....wow

This morning at 8:00 am i had my wisdom teeth removed. It wasn't bad at all, the worst part was getting the iv thing installed in my arm. that was quite awhile ago and i'm feeling pretty messed up on the pain killers right now (i really have no idea if i'm spelling anything correctly right now )....anyways, i have never been so tired in my entire life....well....i gotta go pass out again.
Does anyone else remember having their wisdom teeth removed? I'm feeling kinda tired....gotta go......i wonder if i'll remember writing this?.....oh well.........

I gotta get mine out in the next year or so. When my sister had hers out, the worst part of it was that clove junk that they packed in the holes. It stunk sooo bad. I couldn't hardly talk to her for the week she had that crap in her mouth.

I had mine removed about 18 or 19 years ago, and it sucked. They were impacted, and hed to be broken up into smaller bits so that they could be removed. Was not much fun.

Great. I was about to go get dinner, but now I'm not hungry anymore.

Thanks.

Take care,
-Chris

Thumbs down

I had my wisdom teeth removed back about 10 years. They were impacted. Each tooth was sawed into 4 pieces and surgically extracted because of the impaction. For the lower 2, they cut my jaw slightly to remove them. They gave me a shot, I was supposed to be under by the time I counted to 10... at 30 he ordered another shot (I HATE needles) and that's when I went under. I awoke in a room with nobody else there and forced myself to get up. As I stumbled out to the horror of the nurses (not supposed to be moving for another 30min) I fell, and got back up, refusing to give in to the anesthesia, and I was helped back to the waiting room where I was sitting with tears rolling down my face (the anesthetic caused that reaction in me, no pain, obviously).

I got an infection about a week or two later. It swelled my lower gums till I couldn't close my jaw one morning. They took a large flat tweezers like object and squeezed my gums till they exploded, refusing to give me any anesthetic (most likely because they don't make any money on it from the insurance companies).

Basically, I was unable to eat real solid food for a good 2 weeks or so.

Thumbs up

I had all 4 and a molar taken out last year, I was scared big time, but, man, what a piece of cake it really was! I was surprised! The percocets they gave me after were cool, I only NEEDED them once and then I just took the rest for the hell of it! But it was alot easier than I thought, and I got rid of alot of pain! Good luck with the healing!

Unhappy Wisdom Teeth follies

84LX:

'Wisdom Teeth' removal is different for each person so another's experience - good or bad - is not an indicator of how you might experience the procedure.

I know some folks (like PKRWUD & Unit 5302) who had a horrible experience and some, like myself, that felt no pain, went out that evening and never experienced a problem afterward with quick healing and no side-effects.

According to my dentist (one of the best in this area) Wisdom teeth should only be removed if there is a real problem; otherwise they should be left alone.
'Impacted' just means that they are crowding the other back teeth. That is not always a big deal but only a dentist can tell you for sure, of course. Always get a second opinion before having any operation unless it's an emergency.

By the way, 84LX - your spelling was fine. Hope you heal up quick and all goes well.

I'm supposed to get my wisdom teeth pulled. My jaw has been aching and I can barely eat hard food. I have 4 but its the bottom 2 that hurt the most

Actually, I thought impacted meant they couldn't fully come in because they were pressed up against the molars in front at an angle.

In my case they were, and they never would have been able to come in. The pressure would have changed my teeth and made the braces I got right after that worthless.

Thanks everyone for the support, i'm feeling alot better know. I slept most of yesterday and got a good nights sleep, and i don't think i'll need anymore pain killers. The way my teeth came in was that one was already totally developed (upper left) and was grinding against my cheek and the other one was still buried under the bone. They had to cut into my jaw, grind away bone and stitch it back up and needless to say that's actually the one that gives me the most discomfort. The other one, i wouldn't have even noticed that they took it out.

Yesterday was kind of a drugged out stupor for me and i don't much remember writing that post except that i had a hard time remembering how to spell and i'd kind of black out in the middle of sentances.

On my 3rd stang - if your wisdom teeth are hurting now, now is the best time to get them removed. The only bleeding i had came from the one that was already in and that was because there was a big hole left from where they pulled it out. Good luck on your operation.

Thanks everyone for your stories, it gave me an idea of what i was going through and comforted me as well (i've never had any kind of surgery before).

Lightbulb Clarification

Unit 5302:

As I understand it, In dental terminology 'impacted' means that a tooth has failed to emerge fully into its expected position in the mouth. This may occur either because there is not room enough in the jaw for the tooth, or else because the angulation of the tooth is improper, as in your case.

Sometimes the molar is still in the jawbone, sometimes it begins to grow in crooked and sometimes the molar is pushing against the other back teeth but whatever the exact problem, 'impacted' is the general term dentists use to describe the condition, which is a common one.

Hope that clears up my use of the term in my earlier message.

84LX:

Good to see you're coming around and getting better.
I'm glad the responses you received here helped.

Impacted, in my case meant they were growing more forward than downward, and were pushing my other teeth forward. I had them removed before any damage was done. It still totally sucked. I think I was 17 when I had it done, because that way I was still on my Moms insurance. Boy, having that done sucked.

Take care,
-Chris

Hey, you guys that got your wisdom teeth removed, do you feel any stupider??? HA ha ha . No please, don't stand, a simple applause will suffice.....

A good friend of mine just got his w-teeth removed about 2 weeks ago. Bad experience for him . Swelling for about a week and a half, some bleeding on bed pillow, lingering numbness in lips and face, slight starvation ().... Anyway, his swelling has almost completely gone down, but there is still some slight numbness....

BTW, why are they called wisdom teeth? If they are so wise, why won't they grow straight or come out right?? Hmmmmm............. They should be called idiot teeth, or imbicile teeth.... something to that effect.
