Default parking brake question

I installed new parking brake cables on my '82GT and the cables won't quite reach the cable connector from the brake handle.
If I loosen the adjustment nut on the brake handle, will that give me some slack to reach the cable ends?

I adjusted the nut out as far as I could and it's still about an inch and a half short. I noticed the ends of the cables are not even either(1 inch difference). Now what??

Not sure if your ebrake is like my 91 but if it is you can rotate the pulley (where the cable connects) and pin it while you hook up the other end of the cables underneath. I think this was covered in my manual too. If you don't have a manual let me know and I'll look for it tomarrow.
