Question Front Parking Brake Cable

My 68's front parking brake cable snapped in half several years ago. I just got the replacement in the mail, but now I can't figure out how to remove the end with the ball in the parking brake shaft. Mine is the kind with the pull handle, not the foot-operated type. Anyone know the trick to removing that end?
