How to share cable modem?

I am looking for the best way to hook up multiple computers to our cable modem. I know very little about networking and am wanting any info. I just need an easy and fairly cheap way to share the modem between 2 or 3 computers in the house. What are my options?

I have a program called "All Aboard", and all you have to do is run it on one computer and it automatically sets everything up. Pretty cool actually. I'll see if I can find the reg# and I'll send it to ya!
Trying to figure out microsoft's internet connection sharing was a pain in the arse!

BTW, each computer will need a network card with a crossover cable going to the other computer.

I'ld go with a router, more expensive but more secure also...

This is what I use. It works great. All you have to do is give the router's MAC address to the cable company. Since it's also a hub, it's great for setting up your network.

the easiest way to do it is with a standalon box router, linksys ones are very nice.

Do most routers allow you to use the computers at the same time to send/recieve info, or does it switch back and forth between computers? I think I am leaning towards a router. There are some here for 120 bucks that gives more bandwidth to the computer that needs the most. I am going to shop around for prices a little though.

JL1314 - Does this program you have just need ethernet cables run between the computers?

I suggest going with the Linksys Cable/DSL router. You just hook your computers up to it, hook it up to the cable modem, and you have free sharing of any number of computers. The cable company doesn't even have to know so you only pay one bill

ya, get a linksys. it provides seamless sharing, you won't know, and neither will the cable company. see, what they want you to do is give each computer its own address, and pay for the use of two computers. what the router does is it acts like one computer, and allows anything "behind" it (on your side of the network (in your house)) to get internet access via it.
