Question Buying first new car tomorrow night....

I'm going to buy my first new car tomorrow night. Getting '01 Competition Red GT (also my first 5-speed). My company has this "x-plan" w/ Ford that (I think) means I get the car a couple hundred over invoice. (Can anyone that works at a dealership can confirm?) Ford also has a good interest rate going on. I think I'll be ok, but I'm nervous about surprise fees they'll throw at me. Does anyone have any advice for me? Any ridiculous fees I should avoid? I've done some internet research, but I'm still so worried!

I'm not sure about the x-plan, but I got my 2001 GT at $100 over invoice. I have a 5.9% intrest rate over 60 months. The only other fees that I can think of that they don't realy mention are the tax, title, and liscense fees.

The only thing u have would have to worry about it the finace guy. He will try to thrown in an alarm and an extened warranty stuff like that. Oh and they will try and put in a carpet spary stuff that is supposed to keep u from getting stains. U don't really need any of that stuff. It is really so the finace guy can get some extra money.

I've been counting down for the past five months to TODAY! Today I have enuf for the down payment and I'm ready now! I don't wanna wait another 10 weeks! Arrgghhh! Congrats on your first new car purchase man. Now that you have mentioned it, I have only seen one Performance Red 2001 GT, and that was on the road. I havent seen one yet at the dealerships.

They had to flatbed my Performance Red 2000 GT in back in Septemeber. I thought red was a real popular color for Mustangs, but it took them 3 months to find a New Performance Red GT that had a 5 spd, and charcoal interior.

Actually I'm kinda ticked at them, they lied to me. I was going to special order a 2001 GT, optioned the way I wanted it, but the sales men and finance guy said it wouldnt be until April or May of 2001 for the GTs to be at the dealerships. They told me 2001 GT werent going to be made till later in the production year. This was in Sept of 2000.

I'm very happy with my car, I love it, but 2 weeks after I took her home, What did I see on the dealership lots. 2001 Mustang GT's.

Mercury - I know about your car...I've been drooling over it for a while on the board. How much did you get charged to flatbed it and from where? I'm in VA and this is in NC. I don't think they should charge me frieght or whatever, right???
I called three dealerships and they've found only two red GTs w/ everything I want - one's in NC. The other is in Baltimore, MD...but is a demo. What do you think about that? He's supposed to call me back w/ the mileage (given they even want to sell it now). How many miles are TOO MANY miles for a 2001 demo?
Help me! Help me!

The biggest thing to watch out for is them insuring the loan for disability or death. Don't do it. Don't pay for rustproofing, either. Get one of those new car buying guided before you go. They give you all sorts of tips on stuff they try to charge you for and can't. One is an advertising fee. Why the hell would anyone need to pay their advertising costs?

I know you're buying a Mustang, but for those buying other cars, if there is a factory rebate, do not allow them to factor that into the price. It doesn't come out of their pocket so it shouldn't be their concern. You negotiate based on what you're willing to pay over invoice without that rebate. The rebate may put you under invoice.
