Amen to that! I'd pay more than TWICE as much for a regular gauge if I could be assured that its accuracy was within a respectable percentage of reading (not full-scale). Unfortunately, for something truly accurate, you really do pay through the nose for it. Come to think of it, since there are so many variables in the engine anyways, only a ball-park figure will do for most people, I guess....and no one wants to fork out $800 for a precision temperature gauge.
Your initial point remains completely valid to me.
