I need some backup. To shut my friend up

Ok here is what I have:
98 mustang GT 5spd
mods:
Magnaflow exhaust

My buddy keeps telling me that the car only has 215 horse stock. I have the dang brochure from Ford right beside me and it says 225 horse.

Then he starts saying that my car will be lucky if it breaks into 15s the first time I have it out. Its not like I don't know how to drive. I put a 105hp S-10 17.6 et. So that takes some sort of talent. But 16 flat in a car that has 120 more hp just 1.6 seconds faster I find that really hard to believe.

give me some facts to shut my buddy up
Thanks
Light em up
hehe

Your Stang doesn make 225hp.

As for ET's, i'm GUESSING mid 14's.

T_Bone 01-03-2001 01:31 PM

Yes, Try Me, he does have 225hp at the crank. The 96-97 were rated at 215hp, the 98 rated at 225hp. And yes, you should be in the low 15's to high 14's if you can drive.

With a K&N filter...
My stock 98 GT and I ran 15.2s to 15.5s the very first time at the track....

I would expect you to be in the same range...

I would bet on low 15's at the slowest also.

I've personally seen a high 13 with 26x8.5 M/T at Woodburn Dragstrip. His car was completely stock and did the "slide the right foot to the gas and hold the brake at the same time" burnout. It suprized the hell out of me. If I remember right he rented the car to race sportsman class that weekend.

High 13 with only slicks from a 1st gen 4.6 SOHC motor. Not a prayer in hell.

They are a very very high 14 sec car with good driving. So you're telling me he dropped a full second with just slicks and no mods? Without other suspension mods, the most you're going to get with slicks is a few tenths.

exgmguy 01-09-2001 04:21 PM

Low 15's around 90 mph.

302 LX Eric 01-09-2001 05:44 PM

If the car is bone stock as we on the board know as "bone stock" then the Stang should go 15.1-15.2 @ 91-92 mph with a decent driver.

Don't be upset with this though, just "build a better mouse trap." Install an exhaust system, get some pulleys and gears and before you know it you will be cutting a tenth hear and a tenth there a your mph will increase too!

Good luck!
