i now have a 1972 monte carlo and a dilemma
i bought it yesterday............i've already had some learning experiences.....
i quickly learned that 1/2 tank equals empty.........a friendly car-loving stranger and a 1 gallon gas canister resolved that no problem...... today, i learned that i need a longer overflow hose from the radiator and that holley 4 barrels don't like anti-freeze......... but here is my real issue........... i took it out cruising this morning...........had a blast........i come home and go to get out of the car and the inside driver's side door handle breaks off.........i can't open the door........no big deal.......i just crawl over and climb out the passenger side.......... i go inside, eat, take a nap, watch some football........then come outside to work on it............i decide that it would be best to figure out how the passenger side door works.......so i start messing with the lock and taking off the door panel....... after i lock and unlock the door about 3 times to get a grasp of where the moving parts are located..........i lift the lock and nothing happens........son of a dammit.............i tinker with it to no avail.......apparently something broke inside the locking mechanism.......son of a dammit......... back to the drawing board.......i push to door to where it isn't wide open without shutting it........i go inside to call for advice.......i call my pops........then i call one of his old ironworker buddies...........i formulate a gameplan and go back outside......... someone did me the favor of shutting my door for me......now i can't get in either side........ how can i get in a car without breaking something? what now? edit: this site doesn't seem to host my pics from my msn users page |

Nice move rookie. Should have taken the striker off the door when you couldn't get it unlocked. Your only option is to crawl up through the rusty floorboards. Acutally if the handle works on the drivers inside you might be able to get in. That's quite a ride you got there, I took the liberty of getting the image to post. http://images.traderonline.com/EMedi...0209769315.jpg |
if anyone is actually interested, here is a link to pictures of it

lol No idea really how to open it, maybe try calling a locksmith and see if they can get it open.
And it looks live you've given us your home board. Hey Marty let's go troll around there, and ask them what they got about domestics.... I already read some guy calling him a redneck for it. This could be fun. :D :D §am. |
i've put a lot of time and a bit of money into making that board better........seemingly, like all other automotive message boards, it has lost direction of late........
i don't know of a single american on that board who isn't into domestics and a quarter of the board drives v8 mustangs......so please give it a shot, if you'd like |
I was just kidding with you don't worry. I'm 18 so my crowd of friends consist of rice pretty much so I'm already used to it. I'll swim around the board. I carried over a thread about a ugly Mustang on ebay. :( :(

Sorry dude, no advice for ya. Just thought I'd take the time to give ya that little thingmajigger. Daniel. |
Through the trunk
Go in through the trunk, remove the rear seat back, to get inside the car. Once you're in there remove the door panel/s to get to the mechanism. You can then unlock the door/s and open them to make needed repairs. Been there, done that.

i live in an apartment and park on the street.........hell, i pretty much had to create an imaginary roommate to get a 2nd parking pass......LOL!
so a parts car isn't really an option at this point in my life.........i do, however, appreciate the thought and think it is a brilliant suggestion :o you know what else sucks? since i was taking apart the inside door panels, all my tools are inside the car...........ima recruit some of my dad's old electrician buddies this weekend |
dont you know of anyone with a slim-jim kit? i could get it open, but you are too far away.
now what exactly works and what doesnt, from the beginning. |

i retract my very first post. anyway, pm me or something , maybe i can just find the door's, it's all local call's for me & a guy i work with just sold a 72, i can ask him tomorrow. :) |
i'm not going to touch the car until my work week is over, but.....
i bought a slim-jim tonight, and i have about a dozen different suggestions from guys off a 1st gen monte carlo board........ so i'm going to tackle it after work friday........if i can't figure it out this weekend, i may hit you up and begin to explore such options.......once again, i appreciate it |
no problem. let me know, cya.;) :D :D
|
i found you 2 cherry door's off a 71 carlo, if you are intrested , let me know, cya, ;) :D :D :D
