Aaaaahhh! I'm so pissed. Some people just have no race etiquette!
Sitting at the perfect light.
Left lane: Souped up 73 Mustang (bad paint)--had to be a mid to most likely low 13 sec car. Most likely with a 460 mill. Middle lane: 80-something V8 firebird (decent rims), not really good paint-- high 15 to low 16 sec car-- had no interest in racing whatsoever--cool, didn't really care anyway. Right (merging) lane: '79 Mustang (me)-- high 13s I had to swerve through traffic to get in the front and after finally there, couldn't believe my luck. But CRAP. Cop sitting at light going opposite way. Dangit. "Oh well, '73 should see it and we'll just get up in front of POC firebird and go from a roll at ~40-55 mph somewhere down the roadway" is what I think. STUPID takes off like he's at the drag strip and I accelerate normally and get in front of firebird, and '73 keeps accelerating like he's mad. I'm thinking, "DUDE, WHAT THE CRAP ARE YOU DOING?? SLOW DOWN WH0RE !" There's no way I was gonna race him from the light with the cop sitting there on the other side. Okay give him another chance... maybe he'll slow down a ways down the road. NO. Dork just keeps busting like 80 on the hwy as if he's at the Laguna Seca. Naw man, I ain't doin the 100 mph catch up. Screw that. I don't usually expect such UTTER INCOMPETENCE from a Mustang family member, but I guess hefers are born in all families. It is always those kind of people who get into trouble. He must have not even seen the cop on the opposite side of the street which shows that he really wasn't paying attention to anything. He is the kind of person who gives all of us a bad reputation.

No, cop didn't turn around b/c mustang guy didn't smoke/screech tires on the launch. But I did see him staring at us as we were passing.
Yeah, I don't even think he saw the cop over the other side, but I guarantee you if we both burned our tires off the line (or just even launch any harder than normal street driving), that cop would've had to be blind and deaf to not see or hear us and he would've gotten either one or both of us. The thing that pissed me off more was that the whole time we were sittin at the light, I kept looking over towards him trying to point out the cop and see if we could postpone it until we got a little ways down the road but the punk wouldn't even look over my direction. Oh well, I've kinda calmed down since then (but not totally ) ----------------------------------------- 351W-powered 1979 Ford Mustang notchback Stock 5.8L under 4" cowl, C4 w/ shift kit Holley 750 cfm, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake 1 5/8" MAC shorty headers, Al driveshaft 2.5" Off road H-pipe, 2-chamber Flowmasters Front: 225/60/15, Rear: 255/60/15 Eagle GT II Weld wheels (15x6;15x8), 8.8" Rear w/ 3.55s 14 x 4” K&N air filter (getting the Xtreme setup someday) "Red, thou art my companion. Even without the cop, I have people do crap like this all the time. I'm trying to catch up so we can line up either from a roll or catch a light. What do they do? They wanna play roadrace with them havig a 1/2 block head start. Then they blow through a yellow light with me still a 1/4 block back trying to catch up for a race. I think they're really just scared to race to begin with.

Yeah, you never know what the person is like INSIDE the car...I often pull up next to a potential "fun" encounter - look over at the driver, and half the time they don't even look back, of the other half - most look over and think you are looking at them funny and want to fight...then there is that SMALL% that is cool and nods "lets go".

Yeah, the ones that nod and wave afterwards, "win or lose" are our kind.

I also don't like it when they don't give you a warning they want to race, like if you rev at them and they don't even look over so you think they're not interested but when the light turns green they launch hard and take off.

I always hated it when members of this site mentioned "blow-bys" that they did to other racers.
I totally agree with rev about nodding or waving. I used to not know how to act but now I have a much better 'tude about it. |
