I think I'm gonna be sick ('00 Civic 'Deuce')
WTF are these people smoking?? I had to stop reading the article as to not get sick right here at my desk.(I'm at work) First the pic.
http://popularmechanics.com/automoti..._tb_1066_1.jpg Notice the blown HEMI Deuce in the background? Now read the whole article. The Civic fitting the mold of the Deuce, and 5.0 Mustang? a 14.7 @ 91 civic hanging with a stock SS or cobra. LMAO. Seriously though, is this what people think? http://popularmechanics.com/automoti...00/print.phtml I would beat is stock, and 'The Deuce' (my avatar) would beat it spinning the tires the whole 1/4. Not that either of us would waste out time on this cartoon of a car. |
14.7 is a nice time for a 35 mpg import car, but comparing it to a classic? I don't think so...
I've always been one of those people that likes anything as long as its not overly tacky, and FAST. Honda, Chevy, Ford whatever. But, don't make it something it is NOT. |
too many flames, but i will give it this, it doesnt have a big wing on the back & naawwwzzz sticker's & a million stickers all over the body, plus a cow catcher front end, but to compare it to a 32 ford? bwahahaha, thats a joke.:D :D

Civics and '32 Fords
Read the article and it's very annoying in many respects while true in a few others.
Dubbing a Honda Civic the successor to the Mustang 5.0 is a real insult to American hot-rodders everywhere, which is who this article is aimed at. They spent 10 large on this econocar and ran a high 14, something my '90 LX did off the showroom floor with 225 HP and a 3.08 rear back in 1990. But I digress. I accept that using Japanese econocars as 'Hot Rods' is becoming common and yes, I know some of them are fast, yada yada yada, but most are all show and no go and even when they dumped ten thousand dollars into this Civic it still looks like crap and runs right up there with a stock, 200,000 mile 1987 5.0 Mustang that needs a ring job. Sorry, I'm not impressed and just because some dopey magazine calls a Civic the 'successor' to the 5.0 Mustang doesn't make it true in any way. Flames, gee-gaws and a blower are nothing new and sticking them on a Civic doesn't do anything for me. What's next? A Mini Cooper with a blower, flames and decals and will that be the 'successor' to the mighty 14-second Honda Civic? Gimme a break. What these idiots seem to overlook is the fact that all of the 'Hot Rod' cars they mention from the past were all, without exception, American V-8's. It's a fact that the japanese econocar is now the car of choice for many hot-rodder wannabes and that the American muscle car is being pushed out to some degree but I don't see the Honda Civic being the 'spiritual successor' to the '32 Ford, '40 Ford, '50 Ford, '55-57 Chevy, '69 Camaro or thye Mustang 5.0 in any way and to pretend it is insults all of those fine cars and the people who built them and raced them, then and now. |

Man, this is lame. Some magazine trying to pass off the Honda Civic as the next great muscle car? Bull sh**. The Civic is a commuter car, not a high performance racing machine!
Also, I found this other article on Honda Civics. It makes me sick to even look at it  . Go to http://www.dragracingonline.com . The article is underneath the tech section called This Honda is the next generation muscle car. |

No matter how bad these import people (both the manufacturers or the buyers) try to make there cars fast they can never compare to a true muscle car. The words muscle car and import shouldnt even be in the same sentence unless it was like this "My muscle car beat your import" thats ok :D LOL A muscle car and import shouldnt even be side by side. Muscle cars are 8 cylinders of raw, tire shredding power, imports are suttle , although quick and short about 2 or 4 cylinders, they were meant more for economy rather than street performance or for those who cant handle true horsepower.
I will give credit where credit is due reguardless of whether or not its an import or domestic. But to call an import a muscle car is shameful. I am not all in favor of american based vehicles and I admit there are very fast imports but NOTHING can compare to the true workmanship and american pride of a v-8 powered muscle car.... NOTHING. |
Hod Rod my a**. Most civic owners don't know there p*cker from a tail pipe.
And I always love how they compare older moddified ricers to new STOCK mustangs and Cameros. |
This is a joke right?
I'd like to see a smaller then 200cu engine run 8's, I would be impressed there. Apparently these people don't get out much, I've seen alot of V8 gatherings/get togethers and the ricers who show up (Who knows why?) usually are at the end of the parking lot all alone. lol I think these guys have been sniffing toxic glue. Ok I will admit there are fast Honda's otu there and I'm sure they've beat some American Muscle cars but to say that they are blowing the doors off us is just ignorance. Taking like a stock car from 1969 and putting like 30,000 in mods in the Honda ain't fair. Take any honda and "Soup" it up and I will take half the money they spend and I will blow there doors off. These guys are unreal. I havn't finished reading this **** yet cause it made me go crazy, but I will fininish reading it once I've cooled down. I wonder if they mention how much those flames and rims add to the wheels. Just remembered as I was talking to Kyle (Bake), we went to the track on the weekend and they had a show and shine competition and then all the cars went for a cruise down the drag and all the way around, and someone a Honda was in it? (No idea since it was only Fords and consisted of only GT's, Cobra's and Lighting) and they got to the end and came back and the Honda disapeared. People were mad wondering why this Honda was there but he never returned. We figure they just shot him down at the end of track. :D And $10,000 and only 14.7. I can only imagin the power of $10,000 and my car.    §am.    |
Um yeah. i'll pass
Horrid. simply horrid. i cant believe this. look at where the world is going today... bah. i give up on these ricers. il just kick their asses on the street.
|
What kills me is not what is written there, but the fact that there are so many idiots believe what they are saying. Someone just needs to explain some things about weight transfer and torque to these people. I think I need to go call my Integra Type R friend so I can take it out on him...

The actual number of people who TRULY work on their own cars is quite small. (Putting a cold air kit in does not count folks...) There's just too many people with fat wallets who think "The Slow and the Stickered" was a reality program.... It's OK though, more rice for me to fry on my way home from work... ;) |

I only got a little over 1/4 through the article and had to stop. I can't waste my time reading such filth. |
Hey Mr. 5.0,
There actually is a blown Mini Cooper!!! I hate articles like this. I remember reading a cartoon in a men's magazine. Crotch Rocket : Do you want to race? Harley guy: Sure.....in 20 years on the same bikes. This can be applied to cars. And for the$10k in mods on the Civic, for 14.7??? Thats what my 4 door grocery does bone stock, and I still get 28mpg highway!!! |

Now, that being said, if I absolutely had to own/drive a Honda, I would be okay with that one. Let me emphasize part of that statement; IF I ABSOLUTELY HAD TO own/drive a Honda... At least they avoided the usual rice-a-roni that makes them so offensive to me, although I detest those rims. Take care, ~Chris |
hmmm.......

what a bunch of dummies..... Quote:
i think aszholes describe that magazine editors. i would like to see the "SUUUUPPEEERCHARGED" Civic against that Hemi Deuce in the background:eek: you know these editors had a "sheltered" life! |
for the DEUCE!
hey Deuce, i have a little song for ya! you may remember it and some of you others may too! here it is!
Little rice Coupe You already know what I got Little rice Coupe You already know what I got Well I'm just braggin' babe so do put me down But I've got the slowest set of wheels in town When something comes up to me i just start to cry Cause I have a set of wings man maybe one day she could fly She's my little rice coupe You already know what I got (My little rice coupe) (You already know what I got) Just a little rice coupe with a VTEC mill But she'll walk a Yugo like (sheÕs) it's standin' still She's got big wings and she's stickered and looks poor. She'll do ninety three with the top end floored She's my little rice coupe You already know what I got (My little rice coupe) (You already know what I got) She's got a auto meter tach with an auto on the floor And she farts like a slob behind a bathroom door And that is enough to make you squid, There's one more thing, I got the slow time slip daddy And comin' off the line when the light turns green Well she farts 'em outta style like you never seen Its got wierd shapes and it's definetly queer, When I can't get rubber in any gears She's my little rice coupe You already know what I got (My little rice coupe) (You already know what I got) She's my little rice coupe You already know what I got (My little rice coupe) (You already know what I got) She's my little rice coupe You already know what I got ok, so i got bored:D |

James, that was nothing short of pure genius. You, my friend, are DA MAN!!!
Well done! :D Take care, ~Chris |
srv1, that was some funny ****

Calling a civic a hot rod just doesn't make sense. When i think hot rod i think something rediculously light with insane amounts of torque and sounds GOOD....not like crap....GOOD!!!!
Oh....and to all those people thinking that this whole souping econo car thing up is a new thing, what do you think the whole domestic turbo thing was in the 80's (Dodge Daytona, Thunderbird T-coupe, Mustang SVO, etc. etc.). Although there were a few turbo imports in the 80's and some technology/powertrains got absorbed onto domestic cars, there are more 80's domestic turbo cars on the road than there were ever import turbo cars. These were LONG before anyone was feebly throwing money at slow japanese imports. Also People were tinkering with VW's in the 60's, putting on multiple carbs, putting in Porsche engines, etc. etc. As for being on the cutting edge of technology....weren't japanese cars some of the last cars to have carburetion with miles and miles of vacuum lines. Also just about every car now is overhead cam, low friction designed, CNC machined, and very tight toleranced and domestic V8's are getting faster and faster for the displacement.....what does this mean for import "enthusiasts", you can only pump so much air through a 1.6L without serious work.....It's much easier to pump more air through a 4.6L V8 for example. The whole Sport Compact thing has been around for quite awhile and the only thing the new honda civics replace is old honda civics. This of course, is just one man's biased opinion :D |
Oh, so the car is supercharged too. And it ran a 14.7? Wow, I'm impressed.
|
The only half decent comparision I've ever seen was between the Civic and the Shoebox Chevy (55-57). Both cars were cheap and plentiful. That was as far as the comparision went, and for a time all the kids were rodding up the Bel Air's and 210's, etc.
I wish I could remember where I saw that statement, because it was years ago and I doubt they think like that anymore. At the time it kind of made sense, before the whole all show no go ricer thing took off. James, that song was awesome. I dislike that the media is trying to capitalize on the spoiled little ricer kids to try and keep hot rodding funded. Anybody seen hi-rev tv or whatever it is on Speed? Come on, any show about how Midas will put dual tips on a civic does not belong on the speed network. But those are the people who blow all their money. Someday I will sit back with a cold one and read the whole article. Sounds like it will be pretty entertaining. |

The song
Well I printed that song out and hung i on my cubicle at work!
MY sides still hurt from reading it. that was so great it hurts. |
So I read the entire article, and only have one request of popular mechnics. Explain this to me:

They also say Dean Moon would be proud of this car. There are some misstatements I'll let slide, but not that one. |
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
This makes me think of another thread here that i just read: Kevin Price:I pull up in my car and do my burnout. No kidding, these guys backed away from the fence like they were scared or something. Have they never seen (or heard) a real race car? (sums it up nicely) Ye Flipping Gods, will the blasphemy never stop? SRV1, the song was too funny, now I have to go and listen to my copy of the Brian Setzer version of the real song:D That article just reminds me of the old quote, "you cant polish a turd" J |
