How do you smoke the tires AND pop a wheelie at the same time?

Well hey, instead of warming up the slicks first and then doing a wheelie, why not just do 'em both at the same time???!!! WOW! a New improved racing style. WOW!

does it make me go "WOW" or "that's a bunch of crap!" I vote for the latter.

With what they spent making the charger look fast, they probably could have actually made it fast.

Man, you guys really burst my bubble. I thought the wheelie was for real. I was all pumped to see that a V8 car was whooping a$$ and it was just a freaking stunt. I really hate that movie now!

With all that money they spent making that movie, you think they could have made it realistic. Welcome to Hollywood.

Man, that was my favorite part, I got goosebumps while watching that scene, now it ruined. Now it just blows a$$.

If the blower would of been functional, I'm sure it would of pulled the front wheels up similar to that.

That charger is only an 11 second car. Their web site admits it.

Red face

Are we being a bit naive here, or what?

Look; any movie that features fast cars and racing - especially stunts - is going to be faked, just like everything else that comes out of Hollywood. Most everybody claimed to loooove 'Gone in Sixty Seconds' last year, but they used computer graphics for some of the more fantastic stunts in that movie! So what?
It was still fun to watch.

I readily agree that they could have simply used an honest-to-God 9-second blown big-block Mopar to get the same effect they got with hydraulics and smoke machines, but these scenes are very expensive (everybody working on the set gets about $100. per hour, not including the stunt guys/gals and the actors) and they want it done once and done right, with no chance for mistakes or any real danger to anyone (they have insurance guys that dictate how some of the stunts have to be performed).
This is why the stars very seldom get to do any serious driving - insurance clauses and legal roadblocks stop that every time.
It entertainment to us, but it's really a business and time is money, even in Hollywood.

So, they faked a wheelie and a burn-out (mutually exclusive anyway) and a lot of other things; it was still entertaining.
I didn't expect a documentary about racing, just a Hollywood movie about racing.
The fakery is just an aspect that you assume.
Sort of like what the WWF is to Olympic wrestling. Fun and entertaining and not worth getting too excited about, as I see it. Hey; it's only a movie.

Hi,
I still enjoyed the movie. I am not all against riced out cars; I still love some of them (RX-7, Eclipse, Supra).

And I hear a sequel is in the works. I have this gut feeling stangs (and other GM musclecars) will play a major role; afterall, domestics are ricer's arch enemies, and ricers hate stangers more then anything....that's just my observation anyhow...

Bye!

Hi,
I dunno, no offence but people who are hardcore musclecar junkies that don't wanna see the movie cuz its rice are just too shallow. I mean, c'mon, I drive a stang, and I hate ricers with a passion, but I'm not just a Ford Freak (although there is nothing wrong with that).

I have a taste for many different cars, and I saw the movie (and liked it) cuz of its action and cars (and to get a laugh out of seeing a few low powered imports act tough).

Bye!

I'm sorry, Guatum, no offense, but some people seem to be easily amused. If I were completely opposed to rice, I wouldn't have seen it at all. I was willing to set that aside in hopes of exciting driving scenes. They never came.

For example, in the previews they showed that exciting scene where the ricer crossed over under the truck. Guess what, they already did that neat stunt in the beginning of the movie. It was so unoriginal a movie that they duplicated stunts within the same movie.

It was a really bad movie slapped together in an attempt to cash in on the import craze.

Let's see. The big races:

The 4 car race where Brian loses his car. The flip up computer screens were hilarious, but the racing itself was dull.

The race with the Ferrari. Ooo, the guy in the Ferrari comments about what Brian can afford. Little did he know that the car Brian had that was blown up on that first race night was more expensive than the Ferrari but was a lot slower.

The race between Dom's chick and that guy wanting to race for sex. Time filler at best.

The race between Jesse and the murderous villain with 100k under the hood for a "10 second" car. The classic moron line of the movie occurred when Jesse hits his turbo boost/nitrous button - The villain proclaims that Jesse hit it too soon and then hits his to win.

The final race between Dom and Brian. Classic muscle vs. ricer. This was the best race, I think, which is good since it was the climax. It wasn't the best because we were concerned about who would win, but whether or not Dom would pull a Vanishing Point. Previews pretty much nixed the suspense, though, since we know he flipped the car so couldn't be hit by the train.

Wouldn't it have been better if everything ended up in a showdown between Dom and the villain? Dom in the Charger and the villain in his 100k ricer? Yes, predictable, but sometimes attempts to be unpredictable just ruin the movie.

Like I've said before in the other thread. If you replaced every ricer with a Mustang and eliminated all of the technical flaws, it would still be a really, really bad movie.

I am taking names of people who actually liked this movie so that I can be sure not to heed any of their movie recommendations.
