Well earlier today I went and got a new 2002 R1, and when I got back I went to paint class, and primered my whole truck, it looks great. I'll post pics of both tomorrow!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :)

That bike gives me a hard on....ultimate bike right there....I'd LOVE to get my hands on one of those!

Dark_5.0 04-03-2002 09:02 AM

Im not familiar with the R1..... How does it compare with the Hyabusa (spelling) .. Those bikes are very impressive at the track.

Crotch rockets are cool

Congrats,

MTU 50 04-03-2002 02:23 PM

That V-Rod is definitely one of the best looking bikes ever.

Godslayer 04-03-2002 02:43 PM

yes...

I agree those Hyabusas are nasty hehe...

srv1 04-03-2002 07:13 PM

nice bike!

Topless. one word.... BITCHIN'

1BAD89 04-03-2002 07:37 PM

R1 vs. busa....The R1 is a low 10 second bike..busa' a high 9 second bike. Th r1 weighs in at around 375 dry, the busa weighing in at 480 dry. The busa is more straight line performance, while the R1 is both street, and track, and twisties. It's easier to ride a wheelie on, do stoppies, and it's alot easier to ride, weight wise. R1 makes 152 claimed hp, while the busa makes a claimed 160 ish. The busa makes about 20 more hp. But it weighs 105 lbs more. Busa's just don't do it for me, I wanted a light weight bike, that goes 175ish, and runs low 10's stock. But I really didn't have specs like that, I've had an R1 before, and I have to add, this one is alot better, than my previous 00.:D

Hethj7 04-04-2002 11:14 PM

Ever since I started riding I have wanted the R1! The new ones are so sweet looking too. My bike (97 FZR 600) is in the shop getting new jets for the carbs. I can't wait to get it back!

WADS56 04-05-2002 01:50 AM

I had to sell my 900rr but i still love bikes. I must say if I were to buy a bike again it would be the GSXR1000. That thing is a monster, and cool looking.
Wade

joe4speed 04-05-2002 02:50 AM

I've been wanting to upgrade to the ZX-9R for the longest time, but The R-1 has always lookesd good too!! Hmmmm, decisions, decisions!

rbatson 04-05-2002 03:10 AM

Am I a wuss??

I had a V-Max 12yrs ago and someone rearended me and scared me off of it. I'm shopping a bike right now and am sold on the VFR800. Its not the fastest bike out there... does this make me a wuss?? It is a strong sport touring bike(with aftermarket exhaust= 100hp+). What doyou guys think??
I would really hate to give up comfort for hp(ok, I'm officially getting old). My next bike(after the VFR) will be a Harley... A Harley Low Rider or wide glide...

Yeah that is what I had been wanting forever, until I rode one. I just like the R1 so much better. The power is real comparable between my 02 R1 and a 02 GSXR1000. My new one feels alot faster than my 00. I'm planning on a full Akrapovic exhaust system, should give me about 15-20hp.+ :D

rbatson 04-15-2002 10:53 PM

1bad89, is that the old R1 in the pic? I've been wondering that.. Also, I've had this VFR for a week now and only got on it hard, from a dead stop, twice and the front wheel woobles like well.. I really don't know but I don't like it at all. Maybe the front wheel is out of balance or something.. you have any ideas what it could be?? I'm gonna take it up to the Yamaha shop were I bought it and have them look at it and if they can't fix it without charging I'm going to tell them I want all the money I paid for it applied to a new R1. I've only had the bike for a week..

1BAD89 04-15-2002 11:01 PM

Yup that's the old R1 in the pic, I'd definately have that checked out on your VFR. The new R1's are :D, and they also have a Yamaha Credit card, no payments until Jan. 03! ;)

tireburner163 04-15-2002 11:05 PM

I want a street bike, but my parents would disown me:(

rbatson 04-15-2002 11:09 PM

Yeah, I was hip to the no payment til 03 deal.. but I wanted something comfortable and well.. I sat on a R1 and either the pegs on those kinda bikes aren't as cramped as they once were or my legs can handle it better now.. I don't know which. In the late 80's I sold bikes and once I got on a hurricane(cbr) or simular bike my legs would get a cramp, not now though(hmm).

How is it these guys with the R6s are running low 10s?? How can these smaller bikes run with a liter bike?? Its been awhile since I was really into bikes but this really baffles me. Low 10s with a R1 and low 10s with a R6... how can this be??

1BAD89 04-15-2002 11:14 PM

Show me a near stock R6 running low 10's, no way, without alot of work, or a hardcore drag racing set-up.

Why is that hard to believe?? An'01 R6 runs 10.75@127 stock, and the ZX-6R runs 10.92@125 stock, CBR 600F4i's run 10.71@127 stock, GSXR600 10.69@127. They respond well to mods.

Mine runs a best of 10.32@135 with just an exhaust system, K&N, and Jetted.... The 600's have taken a HUGE leap over the past few years. The litrebikes mostly run about a half a second quicker typically, but they have the huge top speeds, and alot more torque! I want one BAD! I'd still dump the 600 in a heartbeat for one!

Yup, that looks like low 10's to me. Heck, if we are talking mod'ed ones, my R1 could easily be a 9.90 bike with a few bolt ons.

nahhh, I'm just sayin, it doesn't take too much work to get them down, that's all.... Don't worry, the R-1 is still the best! 600's are still just 600's, not even in the same class, never will be. I want one in the worst way, that's right, you'll be hitting 9's easy on it. No worries!

No, no, no, I wasn't saying the R1 is the best, or anything like that. When I think of low 10's , I think of like 10.1's, 2's, 3's. I had 2 R6's and loved them to death, killer bikes, and very fast. Your running some killer times on your 6R! :)

My fault, I got the impression of low 10s because 1fastchick was running 130 traps and JL is running 10.32@135(not an R1) and they were joking around about racing so I took that to mean it would be close. I've read that the VFR800 could handle the 600s but it only runs like 11.14 from what I remember reading.. from the times JL posted it seems I have a dog here..:(

Unfortunately, I've never been able to duplicate that time, usually it's 10.5, 10.6... Who knows!
Do you have a pic of your new R-1 yet? Is it the silver one? I like the looks of those, I'm considering going yamaha the next time around, but then again the GSXR's are lookin good too!!! I rode a buddy's GSXR1000, and couldn't keep the wheel down and the smile off my face the entire time! I didn't want to give it back that's for sure! My bike just wasn't the same after that ride! :)
I haven't driven the ZX-6R in about a month now due to threads showing on the back tire, gotta save for some Dunlops! :)

1BAD89 04-16-2002 12:37 AM

It was a hard decision, but I got the red one. I went up there, and a good friend owns the dealership, he had all three lined up, Red it was. :)

joe4speed 04-16-2002 12:44 AM

I love it....
Damn, they didn't have any pics of the red ones on their site!

Thanks 1BAD89, I was looking for comfort not speed but its easy to get caught up in it. I ran into a pack of bikes this weekend and a ZX12 rode one wheel past me and well... its addictive(kinda like with the mustangs). If they don't fix whatever is wrong with this VFR though, I will be looking at the R1.

Its been 12 yrs since I rode a VMAX and I remember thinking that bikes were wicked fast.. for some reason they just don't seem as fast as they once seemed...

MidNiteBlu 5.0 04-16-2002 09:44 AM

I have the same problem tireburner does. :( My parents, or at least my mom would freak if i bought one. Oh well i will try to get one in a couple years. First i need to actually ride one though... Can i borrow yours 1BAD89? :D j/k ;)

Later,
Nick

polara7777 04-16-2002 12:58 PM

Hey congrats on the new bike! Can't wait to get my new one. Never been much of a yamaha person though. On the subject of that new V-Rod..what a jip! They were originally supposed to be Harleys key to getting younger people into hogs but all the dealerships get them and put a 10k+ markup on their already hefty pricetag. What kinda young person can afford that?!? Nice bikes but not that nice. Heh I never had to worry about my folks throwing a fit about me getting a bike. They both have bikes and have been riding since before I was born. We have like 12 bikes at the house. 2 are mine, 3 my moms, 5 dads and 2 parts bikes. We have tham everywhere on porches outside inside lol.
