Street racing in Ventura news
In the June 30 Ventura News Chronicle - "Officials: Area street-racing trouble grows". The first line - "A Ventura man wrecked a car in an illegal speed contest after seeing the street-racing film 'The Fast and the Furious', underscoring a growing drag-racing problem in the county, police say". Apparently the guy failed to notice that the road had ended and drove through a hedge, hit a concrete post and then tried to report the car stolen - from a pay phone just down the street. To the newspaper's credit, the article didn't get overly dramatic about street racing. It talked about increased patrols on remote Ventura County roads to combat racing, the fact that they can suspend licenses and impound vehicles, including bystander's if they are found to be "illegally altered". I just thought it was funny that the "Fast and Furious" hype has hit home.

Being from ventura, that guy was an idiot. Movies arent to blame, its the driver who didnt know what he was doing. There are not many good spots around town to race people without jepordizing someones life or thier own for that matter. If people could stop and think before they speed, we'd all benifit from it. Usually, if your gonna street race, its a spot that is far from any kind of trouble and free of cops. So to all of you in this area, keep good sense and save the test of power for the strip. Withamc, its unfortunate a movie like that could be the blame of street racing here in ventura. They should re-title it: "Ricers have ego problems, Ventura P.D. chasing them back to Oxnard"

It's true. It seems like all the hip-hop wannabe's are the ones with the ricers causing problems in Ventura. Nothing beats good old Detroit iron!
