IQ test

I found this site www.iqtest.com and took an online iq test. It is pretty cool. hey email your results to you right away, or of course for 10 bucks they will make you a certificate!

Remember to time yourself during the test like they tell you to. I got a 134.

TJR 08-04-2001 08:47 AM

I just took it and got a 149!!!!! WoooHooo! Not bad, considering I just woke up. I didn't pay the $10 though.

Hmm, that's a clever way to build up a mailing list of people who care about how smart they are. Worst is that some people may actually be willing to pay $10 to have a phony certificate sent validating how smart they are.

Yeah I wonder how accurate it really is.

I got a 152. And so did my friend.

In real IQ measurements 150 would be a freaking genuis. Much higher than that and you would be able to bend spoons and connecting rods with your mind and stuff. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

Serouisly though, If I remeber correctly 150 is Genuis level, and only 1 out of every 100,000,000 has an IQ that high. I took an IQ test back in 6th grade, I dont remeber the exact numbers but it was in the 130 range. I'll have to dig that up.

Dont hold much faith in the IQ tests.

I.Q. tests are mostly worthless, in my opinion.
Like membership in MENSA, they may feed egos but have little value otherwise. Intelligence is measured in many ways, and while an online I.Q. test may be fun to play with, I wouldn't take those abnormally high numbers I've seen posted here very seriously.

The $10. certificate fee is the tip-off. Take the test, get a wildly high number and then pay for a certificate to 'prove' how smart you are. Right, that'll convince everyone.
"We have a senior scientist position here at NASA waiting for you sir. Six-figure salary of course and a company car. The least we can do for a man with your I.Q., as shown on this impressive certificate".
Then, we wake up.

exgmguy 08-04-2001 05:51 PM

Yeah, but it is fun to play with. My 134 said borderline genius!!!! OK, then why am I a plumber?????

Funny. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

TJR 08-04-2001 07:38 PM

Yes, the IQ test is virtually meaningless. I rank it up there with the ACT & SAT. I think it's stupid when people try to judge ones mental capacity by a score they got on a piece of paper. What do all these tests (IQ/ACT/SAT) really prove? I only got a 19 on my ACT, so some people probably consider me to be an idiot. That score combined with my GPA in highschool (3.5), got me in the college I wanted. So to me, that's all that really matters.

i think that IQ test are fairly good measures of intelligence, but i wouldn't put much faith in one like this, i doubt it is very valid. what you guys are seeing with the high scores is the upward skew of this particular test. intelligence test scores will vary greatly from test to test, so the best way to measure intelligence is by percentage rank, rather than raw score. that is why mensa accepts different scores for various test, as their standard is the top 2% of the population (http://www.us.mensa.org/join_mensa/testscores.php3). i would say the most valid IQ test is the WAIS, so if you really want to know how "smart" you are, take that or another test administered by a psychologist. IQ tests, generally, measure fluid (innate) intelligence, but not crystallized (learned). as people age (60+) they begin to loose fluid intelligence, but make up for it in crystalized intelligence. i scored a 150, btw.

I don't get it. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

About the plumbing thing, you probably paid a plumbing company 40.00 an hour, and the plumber got 20-25 of that. Probably less. My boss charges 65.00 an hour and most of us get 20 or so. When you work on the side is when you make the cash. I've made 1000.00 cash in 8 hours on a Saturday many times. Problem is you can't do that Monday through Friday!!!

86GT 08-05-2001 01:51 PM

I got 152 on that test... So I'm a genius? Hmm.. my actual IQ is 141 when I was tested a few years ago. SAT was 1260 the same time when I got tested. I did all that testing when I was applying for colleges in the US. I didn't do the ACT since the NCAA Clearinghouse didn't require it as well as the colleges I applied to.

ya, i got a 150 on the online test and my WAIS score is a 141, looks to me like it could be accurate, just with a 10 point negative skew!

156, I have no idea what my actual is.

blue00gt 08-07-2001 03:32 PM

159. Does this mean that I can quit my engineering job and start making money with sheer mind power? How many horsepower is a 159 worth, anyways? Or is that score in miles per hour?

There used to be one on emode that all of my friends and I took, I was tops with a 131, When I was tested in grade school by a PhD certified test I had a 139 which was high enough to get me into this "stretch" program for gifted students. Officially, there are very few people who get above 130 and 150+ is like one in a million.

I just took the test, scored a 156! The second highest I've ever done on one of these!

Mercury 08-08-2001 11:56 AM

Rbatson.

Thats similar to the test I took in 6th grade. I got picked on alot because I was in the classes for remedial math, reading, and everything else but I scored the highest of all 6th graders in my school on the IQ test and aced several state tests on reading writing and comprehension that none of the "Gifted" Students could ACE. Got a few awards for those. Excepts they misspelled my name on everyone of them! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/mad.gif

The standard deviation for the WAIS and Stanford-Binet is 115. therefore, 50% of the population has an IQ of 100 or below, 84% 115 or below, 98% 130 or below (only 2% gets above 130), and .1% of the population (1 person in 1000) has an IQ above 145.

there is a website that graphically depicts this (look at how many clubs there are for people in the top .1%!) http://home8.swipnet.se/~w-80790/BellC/BellCurv.htm

I took the test just now and got a 156. I can't believe that. Josh

Thank you for recently taking the Self Discovery Workshop's IQ Test.
Because of the Internet's ability to mishandle transmissions, we are
reconfirming via email that your IQ Test score was: 156
