![]() I was looking into putting a kill switch in my car so I don't have to worry overly much of my car being taken. But can anyone educate me on these things. I know what they do but what kind are the best ones, where can I buy them, how are they to install.
Thanks!

![]() if you move your batt to the trunk area, or in your case hatch back area it would be easy, you could put it anywhere between, good luck on your project

![]() This probably isn't what you want to do. I used to have a POS chysler LeBaron a few years ago. I lost the only key I had for it. So I had a mechanic friend pop the lock cylinder out and I would start the car with a flathead screwdriver. I didn't have the money at the time to fix it.
When I would leave the car I would pop the hood and take the coil wire with me. What you said made me think about that, I thought I would share.

![]() Sorry 7000rpmisheaven I don't understand what that has to do with a kill switch? You lost your key and put a new lock cylinder. I am just putting a kill switch so that the car can't be started unless the hidden switch is turned on. Nothing to the lock clylinder.
And thanks for the idea CrazyHorse

![]() You misunderstood. I removed the lock cylinder completely. If you use a flathead screw drive you can stick it in the hole where the lock cylinder was, turn the thing that the lock cylinder turned, and start the car. So I had to keep people from getting in and starting it up. Isn't that what you are trying to do. A kill switch keeps people from being able to start the car, right.
Anyways I would pop the hood and remove the coil wire. You know, the one that goes from the coil to the distributor. In case you didn't know you cannot start the car without this. A kill switch also does not allow spark to the motor. I think you can understand why I thought my story(stupid and unhelpful as it may be) is related to your kill switch.

![]() ohh... lol hehehe... sorry about that. Now I understand sorry my head isn't all here. Yeh, I would rather not take parts of my engine out everytime I have to go somewhere. lol... but that is a pretty good idea. I'd rather just put a hidden switch that'll make it alot easier. hehehe....

![]() I ran two wires thru the firewall to a toggle switch under the dash from the coil. Locate the switch somewhere out of sight.
Remove the + wire from the coil, secure it to the new wire to the toggle switch. The other wire from the toggle switch goes back to the + on the coil. This is in no way foolproof, but should slow down anyone trying to bust the column and starting it with a screwdriver. You can get the switch and wire at any auto parts store or Radio Shack. Most any old toggle switch should do, not much current in + wire.

![]() I don't know if u want to do this, but I have a electric fuel pump hooked up to me car through a switch. If someone started the car, it would run for about 10-20 feet, then die. A crook would then just leave the car, hopfully not still moving, lol.
Another way is a batt switch that when u leave the car, u open the hood, and open the switch. U also have a little wire, fused, just big enough to keep power to your alarm and radio, but not big enough to start the car. Make sure u have hood locks too.

![]() Or the battery in the trunk. Then it's tough for them to get to the battery cut-off switch.
The cut off to the fuel pump is a good idea too. That's how mine is rigged. Rev

![]() maroon5.0lx dont take this wrong but 1969 mach1's switch is in the dash & very easy to get too, i know from my 69 grande,so his best bet is a cut off in the trunk, plus it gives him more weight over the rear wheel's.no flame intended at all.

![]() Yeh I was thinking of the fuel pump that was the idea my dad gave me. I'd have to get a new electric fuel pump I just replaced it too. But I'll probably do the coil one for the time being and then do the fuel pump come summer. And yeh I'll hide the switch under the seat or in the console. Or maybe I'll just hook up like 1000 volts to my steering wheel and watch the person fry when they try to steal it. =) Now there is a idea I like.

Actually I saw something in JC Whitney a while ago that did just that. I don't remember exactly what it was, but it hooked up to the steering wheel and sent a electrial current through the person trying to steal it.

![]() I had a switch plate custom built for my ashtray area. My buddy used my old template, the AFM switch plate and used the 1st switch for a fuel pump cut off switch. Basically he just re-routed the power to the fuel pump relat through this switch which is hidden by his ashtray door cover.

![]() It seems to me that if you have a steering wheel which has metal on it then you could connect a wire to the +(Pos) side of the ignition coil and connect the other end to the sterring wheel some how. When the engine cranks or starts, --- be prepared to rec 50k volts!!!!

![]() It's funny this topic came up because there has been an outbreak of car thefts (especially on modified and fast cars...several fox body stangs have been stolen) at all of my friend's apartment complexes, so i'm going to be doing the same thing. I'm thinking of hooking a relay up so that the control side of the relay is activated by either turning on the cruise control switch and the activated side runs into the starting relay circuit and won't allow the car to crank over. Or since i'm taking out my air conditioning, using the AC or AC max selection on the climate control switch to control a relay on the starting circuit. I'm not exactly sure where i want to tie in to kill the car, but the fuel pump circuit is also a good idea but i want a stock looking type system personally, plus my car is gutted so there's alot less hiding places.
Hey, for you fuel injected guys, a FREE kill switch is the intertia switch. leave you car running when you park it, smack the inertia switch with a flashlight or something blunt and wait a few seconds until the car dies and then lock it up. No thief would ever think of something as simple as that (or at least i hope they wouldn't). I may actually start doing that until i figure out what i want to do in terms of having a kill switch.

![]() I actually use my AC switch to activate the fuel pump. You can start it, but it'll run a block then stop. I don't have ac so this switch came in handy.
