Post Cobra Engine Dilema

I Bought a 2001 cobra a couple months ago,it now has a 1000 miles on it & has developed a engine knock on decell. it apparently has piston slap & ford wants to put a new motor in it. I feel that I would not have a numbers matching car any longer, & the value would be alot less and am trying to make them replace the car with another new one even a 2002. Am i wrong? welcome anyones thoughts

You bought a complete car in good faith,
They should provide you a complete car in good faith. ie: Matching numbers

Just for the record, Ford has never had a "numbers matching" car. They never put any sort of chasis/ engine, tranny serialization on thier cars. Wether or not they do now, I don't know, but they haven't as far as I know.

Anyway, hope you get what you're looking for.
Later.

"numbers matching" is just a figure of speech, point being if you were in the market for a low mileage cobra conv would you look close at one with a motor change in it at a 1000 miles? if so would you pay top dollar for it? also if they change motors what will I get, a new hand built svt engine or a crate motor with my valve covers & signature plate put on it.

Big White Cobra is right. The only Numbers to match on a ford are the Date numbers. And its a legitimate reason to have an engine replaced.

WOuld you rather hear that knock, or drive your car in peace and be happy with it. As for the value, it shouldnt go down at all. Just document it and inform the next buyer why the motor had to be replaced.

Now, Value on older cars like classics and antiques, Having a date coded this and that make a diffrence, but not on a new car.

I agree with Mercury, At least they're going to replace the motor, besides did you buy the car to drive it or for a status symbol?
Oh yeah, the DOHC motor in the catalogue is also hand built, as well.
