LS1 Powered Mustang
what do you guys think?
|
Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
i think ur crazy.

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
Me too. It is a disgrace to the mustang. I saw a mustang for sale in our classifieds that had a damn small block chevy in it. I almost voiced my opinion on that one.

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
Are you sick?!! LOL (just jokeing) Pepole do as they please . Oh well no matter, at the parts store I sell LOTS more Cheby parts than anything else and Ford is the most popular here. Any ways your crazy.

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
Put the right cam and bolt ons on an LS1 and you can get 400 RWHP.
The LS1 is an awesome engine. Go for it. :D |
Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
I once lined up against a dedicated drag car, 70 Boss supposedly, 454 chevy engine, roll cage, huge slicks, powerglide, wheelie bars, race fuel, etc. He had just bought the car and was really just sorting it out. I talked to the guy in the pits and he said he intended to return the car to an all Ford bracket racer.
It was Friday night "street night" where you line up against cars at random unless you request a "grudge race" against some other car. I lined up against the "Chevy-Stang". As it turned out, the guy was preoccupied at the starting line as he was just testing out his new car and I jumped him big time out of the hole (we weren't really racing each other). Needlelss to say, at about the 330, he passed me like I was sitting still. The Chevy engine / Mustang idea just made me remember that little instance that occurred at least several years ago. Rev |
Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
Way more time and money needed for that then it is worth. Add in the stigma of the chevy in the Ford, NEVER!!!

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
To make it worse, the guy did say it was originally a '70 Boss. To his credit, he did say it was going to get a 460 ASAP. Still would be a bastardized "Boss" and it really was cut all to pieces (tubbed rear wheel wells, no interior, flaired wheelwells and on and on).

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
haha, i would do that just to piss a few people off. I just think some people are too caught up in that kinda thing, all brands had good and bad stuff.
|
Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
well if it works out the way i planned it should go mid 8's if not faster.guess we will see
|
Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
good luck and have fun
|
Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
it will have a similar blower setup like the one on our Trans Am,you can check it out on competitionplus.com under the galeries for the hardcore spring open
|
Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
I am not totally against mixing brands but I could never cross-contaminate a car. If its a ford the engine is a ford, if its a chevy the engine is a chevy.

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
Disregard this post, it wont let me delete it.

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
BLASPHEMY!!!!!! There's nothing that chapps my hind side more than seeing a beautiful old Ford coupe hot rod, with a chebbie engine in it. It just looks rediculous. If you wanted a chevie, build one. If you want a ford, build one. But, dont mix em.

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
What can i say im just one confused sick individual,i love the styling of mustangs but have easy access to chevy parts.

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
Mechanic where I live bought a blown up 95 v6 stang. He had a chevrolet 400 small block and been a chevy drag racer for 30+ years, so he swapped it in the stang using a 8.8 rearend out of a wreck 5.0, mated to a 350 turbo. Got welds on it. Ran low 11's at super chevy with a big red bow-tie where a pony use to be. Claims to still have AC, PS, pb, and reliability, (after two powersteering pumps, 1 cam swap, 1 broke cast crank), and about 13 grand in whole ride. Looks like a nice cobra, sounds as mean as a snake, but I still dont think cross-contamination is the way. Can't a Ford engine perform equally or better for same $$$$$? Even with no power adders as he is naturally apirated.

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
the motor is free and using a motorplate setup i can easily swap out and use a ford later on with only minor changes. the motor thats going in it has made just over 1000 horse with a small procharger on it and that wasnt running it on kill either
|
Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
I love free stuff. Guy I work with is spraying an open line (no pill) of nitrous on his Ls1 in a '02 camero running 10.80's. If the LS1 is there and the car ain't runnin', or runnin fast eoungh, I would too.

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
well as soon as its done being built i will have pictures to post...the cage that it has is one of the best out there, everything else isnt being skimped on either.it will be a fun toy....they wont let me race at the fun ford weekends either.but iam gonna go to english town april 7 for the mustang and camara/TA race.this will prolly be the race to kick off my season.guess we will see what happens.

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
thats actually very close to my set up.gonna run fuel injection with prolly an f-1 powerglide, moser 9" ford, air to water intercooler in the passenger seat.also i have a QA1 front suspension. the rear torque boxes have been re-done and strengthened so i can run stock type suspension.I had seen and looked at that mustang in autorama.my shop had actually done some work with the carburated ls1 but not with a blower.

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
My boss bought me a sign to hang up in my garage that says "built ford tough with chevy stuff"
|
Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
I wouldn't put a chevy engine in a mustang even if it was FREE.
|
Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
Chevrolet stuff is a little cheaper and a little easier to come by. I know an old man who build a Ranger with a 305. but thats a Ranger, you could put a hyundai engine in a god damn Ranger for all I care though. But a Mustang deserves a ford engine.

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
Well, sounds as if you're going to do it no matter what anyone says, so good luck to ya. I've seen a few of these monstrosities before, and each one was a hillbillie hack job at best. Quality work is seldom seen where I've been living. If I were you, and had access to GM parts, I'd find myself an older Firebird and save a lot of retrofitting trouble.
|
Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
this Beast is far from a hack job, doing the work here at the shop i have alot of control over quality.ill see if i cant get my digital camera to work and post some pics.the idea of puting an LS1 in a mustang is sick yes but not many have done it and the parts are cheap and most are free.
|
Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
Older camaros and firebirds are a dime a dozen. It would be just as cheap to sell the Stang and put the "freebie" parts in a car that they were designed for.

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
nah the way this car is built and set up it will accept a ford powerplant or a chevy, using a motorplate set up just changing the plate and trans/driveshaft,plus i hate the look of camaros and T/A's mustang stylying is by far superior.
|
Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
i love my 5.0's more than anything...but i'll tell ya what, if i had the money to put into an ls1 including building it up, i would definetly switch to one.
as for an ls1 in a stang...one hell of a motor in a light car...why not. |
Re: LS1 Powered Mustang
i know where an 89 RS body is for $200

The latest census reports say that inbreeding is on the rise so I'm sure this type of stuff will be more commonplace.

I dunno, my first reaction is "blasphemy!!!!!" but I did like a quote in Dark's thread..."if you can't beat em..." ;) The pragmatic part of my brain (most of it, whats left at least) says "do whatever to make it fast", but this still seems ...unnatural ...Like ford street rods running 350's, but worse.... I guess because the engine, to me, is the heart of the car. With a lot of the rods, they're already "frankencars' built out of lots of different things, so its not so bad. Swapping a Chebbie into a "true" ford seems to take the personality/heratige away from it and turn it into a "kit-car". Just my .02 J |
