Me too. It is a disgrace to the mustang. I saw a mustang for sale in our classifieds that had a damn small block chevy in it. I almost voiced my opinion on that one.

Put the right cam and bolt ons on an LS1 and you can get 400 RWHP.

The LS1 is an awesome engine.

Go for it. :D

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang

I once lined up against a dedicated drag car, 70 Boss supposedly, 454 chevy engine, roll cage, huge slicks, powerglide, wheelie bars, race fuel, etc. He had just bought the car and was really just sorting it out. I talked to the guy in the pits and he said he intended to return the car to an all Ford bracket racer.

It was Friday night "street night" where you line up against cars at random unless you request a "grudge race" against some other car. I lined up against the "Chevy-Stang". As it turned out, the guy was preoccupied at the starting line as he was just testing out his new car and I jumped him big time out of the hole (we weren't really racing each other). Needlelss to say, at about the 330, he passed me like I was sitting still.

The Chevy engine / Mustang idea just made me remember that little instance that occurred at least several years ago.

Way more time and money needed for that then it is worth. Add in the stigma of the chevy in the Ford, NEVER!!!

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang

To make it worse, the guy did say it was originally a '70 Boss. To his credit, he did say it was going to get a 460 ASAP. Still would be a bastardized "Boss" and it really was cut all to pieces (tubbed rear wheel wells, no interior, flaired wheelwells and on and on).

That just turns my stomach to know that someone took a '70 Boss and put a damn chevy engine in it. If I were him I would never tell anyone that it was originally a Boss mustang.

haha, i would do that just to piss a few people off. I just think some people are too caught up in that kinda thing, all brands had good and bad stuff.

Re: LS1 Powered Mustang

I am not totally against mixing brands but I could never cross-contaminate a car. If its a ford the engine is a ford, if its a chevy the engine is a chevy.

BLASPHEMY!!!!!! There's nothing that chapps my hind side more than seeing a beautiful old Ford coupe hot rod, with a chebbie engine in it. It just looks rediculous. If you wanted a chevie, build one. If you want a ford, build one. But, dont mix em.

Mechanic where I live bought a blown up 95 v6 stang. He had a chevrolet 400 small block and been a chevy drag racer for 30+ years, so he swapped it in the stang using a 8.8 rearend out of a wreck 5.0, mated to a 350 turbo. Got welds on it. Ran low 11's at super chevy with a big red bow-tie where a pony use to be. Claims to still have AC, PS, pb, and reliability, (after two powersteering pumps, 1 cam swap, 1 broke cast crank), and about 13 grand in whole ride. Looks like a nice cobra, sounds as mean as a snake, but I still dont think cross-contamination is the way. Can't a Ford engine perform equally or better for same $$$$$? Even with no power adders as he is naturally apirated.

the motor is free and using a motorplate setup i can easily swap out and use a ford later on with only minor changes. the motor thats going in it has made just over 1000 horse with a small procharger on it and that wasnt running it on kill either

I love free stuff. Guy I work with is spraying an open line (no pill) of nitrous on his Ls1 in a '02 camero running 10.80's. If the LS1 is there and the car ain't runnin', or runnin fast eoungh, I would too.
