what is the largest dispalcment achievable with a 302, (without changing out the crank).

Keeping the stock stroke of 3.00" you can bore the cylinders to:
.030" over to make a 306 cu in or .040" over to make a 308 cu in. I personnally haven't seen anything greater than a .040" over bore on a stock block. It may be possible, but I'm not sure who would make a piston for anything greater than 4.040". Plus, the more you bore the less material between the cylinders which means a weaker block. E |
Thin wall castings
Thne 289/302/5.0 blocks are "thin wall castings". That's great for light weight, but is not good for more than .030 or .040" at he most over bore.

You can bore a 302 out to a .040 have have a 308.
I've seen a early model block taken to .060, which is 310 cubic inches. That way you can have that ultra cool 4 extra hp, it's just not worth it to even worry about it. -Josh, aka the tireburner |
