Tire sizing poll - 68 fastback
I'm taking a poll. What tire size do you think is best for a 1968 fastback? I will have factory ride height, less 1 inch in front. I don't have the luxury of working with a tire dealership to try several sizes. I plan to use stock wheels (15x7, 5 lug) . I could go a little wider than stock tires to imply muscle car, but the car is stock. Wouldn't go so wide as to encounter the wheel well lip. Won't change the offset. What do you think of the appearance of classic Mustangs with two sizes of tires (slightly wider tires in back than in front)? Any experience with shorter side wall height (low profile) tires? At this point appearance is key. I've done quite a bit to ensure handling and comfort are already better than good. A specific tire size recommendation and your reason would be most helpful.

Personally, I prefer the same size tires front to rear, if they are fat. Kinda gives them a heavy, stable look.
I have 245/65/15 Eagle GT's on my '69 Mach 1. These are mounted on 15x7 Magnum 500's. I dont have clearance problems and love the agressive looks. I am at stock ride height. I also like the BFG Radial T/A's. A good quality tire and not too expensive. ($65.00) Check out... Tirerack.com Hope this helps |

I like 70"s up front and 60"s in back.
on a 65-66 23570's front and 24560"s in back look good. In back you don't have as much to worry with tire clearance and can go with wider, even to 24550"s in back and 22560"s in front.. ------------------ 1989GT,373grs, B&M 2500Stall, shft kt organic clutches and Kevlar band. I would run 245's in the back and 215's in the front. Nice hot rod look

You don't have to try on a bunch of tires, just call a speed shop. They usaully have a book that indicates max tire & wheel size.
BTW - I believe the stock rim that year is a 14 in. I have a couple of 67 fastbacks. I run 255R1560 on 15x7. They rub a little if the air shocks are low. Point is - get the right wheels (the correct offset) and the right tire. Tirerack has always been helpful to me. Good luck |
