whats yer feelings on Pontiacs latest endeavor at Muscle car glory the Holden Monaro?

i really hope they dont call it a GTO, cuz that would just disgrace the name.

HAHAHAHAHA you guys are funny. Australia has been smoking us for breakfast for years when it comes to production vehicles with balls. The new GTO will most definitely live up to it's name. As far as Holden's Monaro, I would buy one tomorrow if they sold a left hand drive model here.

and Jonathon, don't confuse the tradmark Pontiac grille with the Grand Prix. All Pontiacs have had that look for more than 30 years.

well IMO, the grand am and grand prix are virtually the same...and so now theyve "remade" a classic to look like those cars too...i dont think a trans am looks like a grand am, nor a sunfire (completely), etc...i just think that the gto looks much to like a grand am/prix with more than just that grille in mind...my opinion is all...

now time for me to pack up my computer and drive 200miles back to UF tonight...damn school...oh well..

Performance wise that may very well be true, but personality wise I don't think its even in the same league! These new cars all look to much alike to me ... its like they all use the same body and paint a different grill on it ... its the same thing that happened to funny cars years back. If its a mustang paint a mustang grill on it, if its a camaro, paint a camaro grill on it ... under the paint i think they're dam near the same body ?? The cars today seem to be at either one extreme or the other. On one end they're tear drop shaped without a single body line or corner of any kind, and at the other end of the spectrum they have so many lines they look like a military vehicle covered with armor ???
I think its a generational thing ... I think the designers of my generation make the designers of today look like village idiots ! :D

I went to the LA Auto show last night, and have some pics of the GTO. Trust me, it will blow doors on the Slowmaro, and it looks damn cool.

I'll post some pics when I get home tonight.

Two of my first 3 cars were a '66 Malibu and a '69 Chevelle SS396. Only recently did I change my opinion that no "real" cars had been built after 1972. I haven't sat in the new GTO yet, but I'm sure it has personality. Well, I sure hope it does. I understand what you're saying about them looking alike, but that's been true since the GTO was born. The GTO, Le Mans, Tempest, Chevelle, Malibu, Cutlass, Cutlass Supreme, 4-4-2, Skylark, and GS400 all had the exact same body. The only difference, appearance-wise, was the front and rear clip, the badges, and maybe an artificial scoop or two.

Don't get me wrong, the '69 Judge is still my all-time favorite car, but they've always looked alot like many others. IMO.

yeah, except the GTO has a 340 horsepower V8, 6 speed tranny, is rear wheel drive, and has a top speed of 160 mph. Cavalier's don't even have wet dreams that good.

I didn't mean just the GTOs or just the Pontiacs, I ment every car on the road almost. If you erase the grill and the headlights from this picture, it'll look just like a honda or a toyota or any one of a dozen other cars ? There just aren't any body lines on anything anymore.
By the way Chris, there is a shell gas station near me that has an absolutely gorgeous red 60's GTO sittin out front. Don't know whether its for sale or not but If your a goat man this one would have you droolin like a dog with one glance :p

I LOVE GTO's!!! That's what I was shopping for when I bought my Super Sport. I prefer the '69 Judge, but this '70 isn't bad: 1970 Judge!!!

You might not like it then, its the older body style probably a 66 or 67 ?? Red ... pretty much totally restored and i think it has a black vinyl top ? gorgeous car to me :p

Have you checked the mileage on that thing? :eek: It looks pretty good for a 70 GTO with 999,999,999 miles on it. :D

I agree with you. The 69 Judge is by far my favorite GTO.:eek:

I'm kinda funny about those cars. For the GTO's, the '68 & '69 are my favorite, and the '66 & '67 are my second favorite. But, with Chevelles, it's the opposite. Go figure.

A very close friend of mine has always loved the '67 GTO, and after 5 years of looking, he finally found one good enough for him, and bought it. That was 10 years ago, and he still hasn't finished restoring it. It looks identical to this one:

yea i saw the pics in pontiac performance an was like, "huh?" :confused: call me totally nutty but its looks nothing like a GTO, hell it don't even look like a modern muscle car. intimidating my ***, maybe the under hood 6 spd an An LTI. but thats it.. fearsome or eye catchin HA! it looks like a pissed of Sebring or grand prix. I know its based on a Holden monaro but come on ! if your gonna go rifiling the bins of history using legendary musclecar names, FOR GODS SAKES DO IT RIGHT!!:mad: this is a joke, an i'm pretty sure the ol goat heads with the tri powers an judges, think its in an insult to their designers, racers, an buyers of the original GREAT ONE.
Pontiac designer guys, come on! I dunno what you were smokin when ya came up with the aztek, but you got THAT firebird RIGHT. I thought you could certainly work the same type magic on a such a legendary muscle car..boy was I wrong.:rolleyes:

I think it is badass. It looks great and has a good deal of power stock. Eventually we will see more performance parts coming too.

You guys really need to check out the Holden (GM) and Tickford (Ford) models that go to Australia. They are MUCH better cars than the US could even dream to get.

Thats just my opinion, If i was in the market for a brand new car it would be on my list :D
