Post Thinking of buying a 94GT, need advice.

Hey guys,
The other day I test drove a 94 Mustang Gt Convertible. I was pretty impressed with the car. I am seriously considering buying it, the only thing holding me back is the question of power. I currently drive a Camaro(gasp) Its an 86 Iroc, I felt like the Gt was just as fast and my iroc but no faster. Is there anything I can do easily to boost the power of the stang. How easy are they to modify and what are some good starting mods? The car is a 94 gt with 48k on her. They are asking 12.9. It seemed really solid.

Thanks for any help and ideas guys.
Mike

12.9 is a bit high. I saw a '00 GT vert for 15.9 with 2000 miles. Look around for a '99 or up. I think you be much happier with the power, 45 more hp. Although, you can get 100 or more hp out of the 94 for under $2500.

That price does seem a little high. It is pretty easy to get more power out of those cars though. They still have the pushrod 5.0, which has a huge aftermarket serving it. If you would find a newer one, 96-up, they have the new modular motors. They also can be very fast, but just cost a little more to get there right now since the technology is newer.

As far as where to start, I would get a set of gears for the car. No power increase, but they greatly improve acceleration.
Then you can bump the timing up, remove the air silencer, add underdrive pulleys, cold air intake,...the list goes on and on. If you do get the car let us know. Many guys on this board can put you in the right direction.

94GT Convert should run about 15.2 with the 5spd, maybe 15.5 with the AOD.

You can get them to drop into the low 14's pretty easy, after that it requires more money.

Even with 48k, I'd say $12,900 is a little high. I've seen coupes with that kind of mileage for as low as $9,000 here around MN (quite possibly the most expensive place in the universe to buy one for some reason??). Anyway, I'd say maybe $11,500 would be a solid deal.

The 94-95GT convert is not the best car to choose if you are looking to make a fast car, the 96-98's are even worse. Spend an extra few grand and get a '96 Cobra convert if that's what you want to do with it. They'll run real low 14's stock. Add some gears and you're well into the 13's. Add some boost and subframes, hang on, 12's for sure.

I'd definetly stay with the 94, 5.0 motor over the 96-99 4.6. They are faster from the get go and there is SO much after market stuff. A set of 3:55's or 3:73's, some exhaust and intake work and you will de smoking your old (shudder) Camaro. Just pick up a copy of 5.0 Mustang & Fast Fords and browse the ads. As the old saying goes, Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?
