Post Street racing in Ventura news

In the June 30 Ventura News Chronicle - "Officials: Area street-racing trouble grows". The first line - "A Ventura man wrecked a car in an illegal speed contest after seeing the street-racing film 'The Fast and the Furious', underscoring a growing drag-racing problem in the county, police say". Apparently the guy failed to notice that the road had ended and drove through a hedge, hit a concrete post and then tried to report the car stolen - from a pay phone just down the street. To the newspaper's credit, the article didn't get overly dramatic about street racing. It talked about increased patrols on remote Ventura County roads to combat racing, the fact that they can suspend licenses and impound vehicles, including bystander's if they are found to be "illegally altered". I just thought it was funny that the "Fast and Furious" hype has hit home.
