Please read Mustang Men......Dealer says we need a reprogram for 3.73's

Well, the dealer in our town says that my friend needs to reprogram his computer to go to 3.73's in his automatic 97 GT.
I know for one how unreliable dealers can be so I thought I would check with you fellas. Until this latest news I was under the impression that all we needed to do was take five minutes and change the speedo gear to a 23 tooth gear.
Is the dealer smoking crack or what?
Thanks as always,
Jared

I thought that only the 99's and up need the reprograming, but it might be earlyer. There is such a thing though.....

To be honest, I don't know...
I know the 99-00s need reprogramming\different chip\speed compensator but I don't know if 96-98s do...

Anyone with a 96-98 auto know?
