here's a pic Christine sent me last night that she took at the track. First let me say that I hate having my picture taken, which is why very few exist. This was taken at the end of the night, while we were getting ready to put a spare on the right rear, so that we could load the car onto the trailer. From left: Crew member and best friend Dave Hulce, Me, Driver/Owner/Boss Jim Porter.

Take care,

Here's another one Christine took from up at The Cross (kinda a lookout point type place), overlooking downtown Ventura, the beach, and the pier. Unfortunately, it was really overcast the day she arrived, as you can see in the picture.

Take care,
-Chris

Yeah, I'm sure. Ventura County has some of the cleanest air around, actually. It's just that with the ocean being as cool as it is, we do get quite a few overcast days. If you've also seen the pictures we took up in Ojai, they were taken the same day, and you can see how clear it was, except for smoke from the Wolf Fire going on in the nearby Los Padres National Forest.

:)

Take care,
-Chris

you Californians(sp?) dont know what clean air is! thats too bad. :(

MidNiteBlu 5.0 06-18-2002 06:13 PM

Hey we do know what clean air is its in the mountains around here :D But the haze that you see is common for So-Cal. It is like that in the morning and by 11ish the sun burns it off and it is clear outside. San Diego has some smog but its not bad at all.

Again it sounds like you guys had an awesome time. Always good to show new people how sweet California is :) I have lived here my whole life except for 3 years in Fairfax, Virginia and dont regret any of it.

Later,
Nick

If we Texans don't know what "smog" is, we can always count on those "F"ing feds to tell us, ain't that so?

Big Bear, in San Bernadino, about 60 miles from L.A., has some of the very cleanest air in the country. I've lived all over the country, travelled to/through 5 continents, and lived in Australia. I know what clean air is. Granted, the air in Ventura isn't as pure as it was in St. Moritz, Switzerland, but it is comparable to the last time I was at Cape Cod, and is usually as nice as it was the last time I was in Vermont.

What is sad, is that smog in L.A. is partly natural. There were reports of it being there by the first settlers. Still, several million people living there doesn't help! When I first moved to California in 1978, I lived in Van Nuys, in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. Because of the mountains that surround it, it just holds the smog in place. For 8 months out of the year, it's so bad down there that you can't even see the mountians that surround it. What is really sad is that when you live there, you just get used to it. You don't even notice it until you are coming back into it from somewhere else. When I lived there, I spent 8 years working as a summer camp counsler up in Big Bear, and the first day or two you were up there, it actually hurt to breath! The clean air felt like a knife in your lungs. That did suck. It's alot better down there now then it was when I lived there, but it still sucks. I avoid the Valley at all costs, when possible!

Take care,
-Chris

This is the last of my pics from last weekend that I am being allowed to post. It's a picture of Christine inside the car. It is very tight and restrained in there! You can't even see the front tires when you're strapped in!

Christine-
Just wanted to once again thank you for the best weekend of my life (so far). It was filled with memories and experiences that will be very difficult to ever equal.

:)

Much love,
-Chris
