I've had only 2 gm products. My first car was an '82 Oldsmobile Delta 88. It survived my dad, mom, brother (the only thing he never wrecked) and finally me. I got it in '93 and it was still a good car. The other I had was a '94 Pontiac Sunbird. It was SLOW. The throttle position sensor wend bad and I had to take it to the dealership 7 times to get it fixed. The service manager was rude to me too. Since then I've only had Fords and one '73 Dodge Duster. The dustball was really slow, had the good 'ol reliable sland six. I wish I still had it, it was in near perfect condition.
If I was going to buy a new car I'd consider a VW. I worked at a VW dealer a few years ago and even the mechanics there said they were very reliable cars. The only common problem they mentioned was something about the wiring. If I remember right they also have a 100,000 mile warranty.
As for the Focus, it's kinda ugly. But if it's a well built car I guess you could get used to it.
Good choice in staying away from rice!

Stay away from Kia. They are owned by the gigantic Hyundai Corp, along with Daewoo. Hyundai is going default on a ton of their loans and is basically bankrupt. The government said no way to bailing out the company again and it would appear that they are going to have to do some massive changes, selloffs, and attempt to refinance. Their 100k warranty isn't going to help them with profitibility either. I would honestly expect them to fold Daewoo in the next 5 years, and possibly sell off Kia in order to attempt to stablize their financial position. If that becomes the case who knows if your warranty will even be honerable if the maker goes under?

I kinda like the Focus, only the wagon though. The little ZX-3's kinda cool if you ask me.

I'm going to try to talk my wife into test driving a Focus maybe tuesday. I think she'd really like the car if she drove it.

She's always messing with me with the old sayings...
FORD - Fix or repair daily blah blah blah.

Best d@mn built cars you can get in my opinion, and I should know... I've owned more cars than most of our local dealerships around here =)

A side order of rice is never out of the question. My sister has a 1996 honda accord with a 2.2L (a F22B1 I think) she has wrecked it numerous times (always cheap to fix) overheated it 4 or 5 times with the worst fix being a blown head gasket or blown up radiator, not to mention it still runs fine drives excellent and gets 27+ mpg.
