The need for speed.......
I was talking to my sister in laws dad last night about his old GTO. The car is long gone, but I finnally got some real info out of him.
Me, "I heard you had a GTO that was pretty quick." Him, "Yeah, it was the fastest car in Orange County for almost two years." Me, "Really, what'd it run." Him, "10.21 @ 134" Needless to say, I picked his brain about that car all night, and I'm talking to him about building a car. It was a '65 4spd, 389 tri-power swapped for dual 4bbls, and a roller cam. We can't afford a GTO at 8k for a decent roller, so I'm going to work on getting him excited about an early 60's Fairlane or mid size Merc. I can tell he wants to do it too, some of his friends have replica cobras, an 03 Cobra and an 02 zo6. Just thought I'd share. |
yeah then i wont be the only old man here, who likes hot rod's ,lol:D :D

Someone may be coming to buy my Pony tommorow if he buys it I am thinking of buying a GTO Judge. I love them, either way I'm buying another classic car to start to restore, maybe another Mustang. Really don't know at this point. =) §am. |

I'm thinking I may need a 390, or just a gnarly 351C depending on what I build. Def, 4:11 with a 9" locker. The only problem now is fabbing a roll cage into the car, without it being soo obvious. I want it to be streetable too, cuz he had the GTO while he was in the Army. |
HEEHEE deuce..... I know what you are trying to do....... AND IT"S WORKING!!!;)
Okay I will be good now! See ya, Karen:p |
The 1970 BOSS 429 was a true hemi engine. It had a solid cam with a .509" lift, and 300 degrees duration. The heads had huge 2.280" intake valves and 1.90" exhaust valves. The rocker arms were different ratios, though, with the intake rockers being 1.65:1, and the exhaust's being 1.76:1. It came with an aluminum dual plane intake, and a 735cfm Holley four barrel. The block had 4 bolt main caps, except for the number 5 cap, which was 2 bolts. The pistons gave it a compression ratio of 10.5:1.
:) Take care, ~Chris |
I always figured if I could afford a BOSS motor, I midas well just build a Cammer instead.
When I finnish my Cobra I'll only be able to afford a straight six. crap. |

I'm thinking I can get a much better deal on an early Fairlane 500. The worst buildable GTO I've seen was around 6k. That's ridiculous. Hopefully I'll get a bad arse Ford. :D

mopar....mopar....mopar...mopar...Sorry trying subliminal messages. Did it work?
|
I've considered building an early 60's Valiant Convertible with a 360. But that was when I was young and foolish. Now I'm just foolish. The first thing I want to do to the car is fab up a cage for it. I don't plan on running 12's in the car. ;)

Hey that's fine how about a 70 or 71 Duster or a Demon. Very capable rides. Or a 64 Polara. That car was born a drag strip terror. I even know where abouts one sits right now.
|
We'll see what happens. He had a LeMans 'vert too, so it may not be that easy to get him away from chief Pontiac. ;)

Duece, thats funny because my dad had a gto a long time ago as well and he said it was the fastest car in his town for quiet sometime. But he had to sell it before i was born.
