Default Advice on a new window for my conv. top

I just bought my 91 LX 5.0 vert and I need to install a new window in it. I was looking in muscle mustangs fast fords, and I saw they have glass ones for $124. If I order this window, is there a shop that will install it, or can I install it myself?

I called an auto upholstery shop, and the guy told me that in my top there should be a zipper that holds in the glass window. Is this true? What is involved in putting a glass window into my convertible top?

Cool Tops............

I"ve got my new top and glass in my living room and garage. Been putting it off cuz its so damn expensive to do. But I wont be able to wait much longer!
I ordered mine from Late Model Restoration. ( I have a '94). That is a good price for yours. I got the one this time w/ the rear window defogger. Cost about $200. (for just the GLASS)
I would have someone put it in for ya! Since its only the glass, it should not be TOO terribly expensive like replacing the whole top and glass...I think I'm looking at about $500 for the top and the glass, but I"m too scared to call and find out! They come separate.
I would def. call the uppolstry shops and ask them . Also, you dont want to have to worry about something not going quite right and it leaking later on down the line. That can cost you even more $$$ in the longrun....That is not something you want to fool around with! Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!! TNT

I believe the window ships with the glass installed on a panel with zippers on it. I replaced my top, but the rear glass and panel were fine, so I zipped the old one back in.

If they ask for the color of the top when you order the glass, you can assume the panel comes with it. Never hurts to ask before you buy.

Default top replacement

Hi i just replaced the top on my 95 Gt conver. today and let me tell you that it is no easy task. The cheapest price i found to get the hole top replaced was 1000 and that was with the glass window with defrost. If you have never done any similar work on a car then i would recomend you subbing it out to get done.

Question ????

How bout if you allready have the glass and the top? What did they charge for labor? I've heard many different stories...
I agree....I hear its a PITA and You DONT want to worry about it leaking. My old one never has. Hopefully it wont when i get it replaced. I saw a really crappy job done on a top, and it was real obvious.... How long did it take to do it? TNT

took me and my dad a whole day to do it. All the local shops were quoting 1000-1200 for top and install so i guess just for the install it will be about 4-500. It was real tight the night we finished. I mean it. It took two people to get the top to lock into place. We let it stretch out overnight and put it out in the sun the next day and it opens and closes like a dream. my old top leaked from the day i bought it (used) and then the rear glass came unglued so i decided just to replace it all. Now when it rains there is like a channel around the bottom of the rear of the top that collects the water and it runs out through a spot under the car. Im not sure if it is supposed to do this or not since my top leaked from the beginning. But there is no water leaking into the floor at all. It is all caught in the channel and dranned away.

WOW! I cant believe you did it yourself! Sounds like it turned out okay! Just as long as its not leaking IN your Stang, you did good! Ya, Im figuring about $500...like I said, I need to do it, just hate to part w/ the $$$$$$...I saw a REALLY CRAPPY job done to where you could tell that it was not put in right. Ya'll sound like you knew what you were doing....wanna do mine??????? LOL! Hopefully I will get the top installed before it dry rots in my garage!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 TNT
