need your opinion
I have an 81 GT t tops. it is gutted, and i have been tearing it down for restoration. the deeper i get, the worse the car gets. To the point where i am thinking of jumping shipon this car and finding a different one. If I am going to do this much work, i think i am better off doing it on a car i absolutely love, not just any mustang. I can't decide between these two cars. Late 80's coupe or a 66 fastback shelby gt 350 clone.
the plan for the car is a fuel injected 351 W, with a turbo setup,m and a top loader four speed. This can be done in either car, as they both would be brought down to the sheetmetal first, and then built from a fresh palette. The car under my name is my buddy's 70 fastback. It has progressed beyond that, but i don't have any newer pictures yet. if you see how far that car is stripped, you'll see how serious we are about doing these things right. we even insist on spot welding in the original ford locations. i set up a poll to get the numbers. thanks for your opinions.

after i got my 69 grande, the running ear was great, except the ac was shot, i spent over 3500 buck's, it still look's like crap, well it's my son's car now, but, i got tired of the money pit, so i bought my 00gt new, now i cant afford any mod's , but slowly but surely , i will. good luck, i wish i could have done my 69, justice, but, couldnt, cya.

Do the '66 fastback, but don't do a shelby clone. Personally think they are overdone. The body mods are cool, and I'm all for those. Just keep the paint simple, kind of like an early bullitt. Thats my thought, but I've always been different. (ex: I'd never put cobra R's on a new body)

I say go for the '66 GT350, it'll be 100x better car to restore. It'll hold more value, along with it's more of a show car. If your looking to make a racing machine then go with the late 80's coupe. But I definitly would go for any Fastback over a late 80's coupe.

I guess i got my answer. I actually wanted a 67 fastback. but my crew and i are trying to make a little collection, and my buddy desperately wants the 67. to be anice guy, i am going with either the 65 or 66 fastback. unless you guys have any other ideas.
so far we have the 70 fastback in the works, we have an original 72 mach 1 we aren't sure what to do with yet, we have my car, we have my friend's 67 fastback, we have a 66 coupe. i'd say we're busy for the next ten years. |

Hey 81,
If you have any good parts for the 81, I might be interested in them for my 83 restoration....

A mid 60's Galaxie is what I'd do. Drop a 460 based engine with a C6 and have the perfect sleeper.
Just my two cents. |

A burgundy '66 Galaxy 500 convertible, with a white top and interior, with a 460. Yeah, I can see that.
Take care, -Chris
