Default New 390 HP Cobra nice to see

The new 390HP Supercharged 4.6L DOHC is nice to see. So is the T56 transmission.

Even if they did make the Camero SS and Firebird WS6, they would be no match for such a Cobra.

I wonder what the sticker price will be on that puppy?

Yeah! Up the boost, throw an exhaust system on, and some sticky tires, and Z06's will be no match!

Go Ford!

Yeah I am assuming that the new blown Cobra will be similiar to the Lightning, whereas you just have to swap out the blower and or crank pulley to up the horsepower. Its almost TOO easy.

It's on the cover of Motor Trend I believe. Haven't read the article myself, but I have read some other stuff about it on the net. I think they listed the price for a vert as around $35,000, so hopefully you can get a coupe for around $32,000.

I'm sure that 390 is underrated, either that or they just said that its 390 at the motor when its really at the wheels!

the 01 R was rated at 385 and dyno'd in the 370's, so thats way under rated, Im sure thats what they're doing with this one too

Dan and I discussed this in great detail. We came up with that Ford probably dropped the compression ration on the Cobra motor to about 8.5:1 like they did with the Lightning motor. The they threw a blower on it. Its probably making around 8-9 psi with that compression ratio to only make 390fwhp. If they used the stock compression ratio they most likely used 5-6 psi and detuned the EEC for motor health reasons. I don't know if this blower will be intercooled or not. With the small horsepower jump its possible that its not, but yet again the Lightning only makes what like 380hp with a 5.4 so anything is possible. But I will tell you one thing...... with a lower compression ratio the engine should be able to hold up to much more boost than a pre 03 Cobra motor! :-D

Could you add a big intercooler to such an blown setup if it didn't have one? Then you could go with , say, 10 pounds of boost with little worry of engine failure, use 93 octane gas, and also with stock timing.

Well if it did not come with an intercooler, it would be impossible to install a normal style intercooler considering its a roots style blower which IS the upper intake of the engine. It would be kinda hard to re-route the intake runners to go to the intercooler mounted under the front bumper and back to the intake ports of the heads. :-D

Umm after the 5500-7000 grand price, I'm sure they'll love destroying internal engine parts.

If I remember, doesnt the LS-1 already kind have a high compression? If I remember its not a very boost freindly one.

There arent any new FireBirds or Camaros to be had. To say there will be is only speculation.

Plus the possible return of the Camaro, and unlikely return of the FireBird does not mean the return of the LS-1. Gm has been developing and working on a small displacement V8 for a while now, and it has not seen production in any of there vehicles.

I wanna say its like a 3.9 L.

To me that indicates that if they are rising from the grave anytimes soon, they will probably be carying the small displacement V8.

390 HP on the Cobra is probably underated. But dont forget emission plays a big roll in todays vehicles.
