New 5.0 Driver
I have an 89gt 100% stock "even the air filter". When I burn out I only leave 1 skid mark is this normal?

It sounds like your limited slip is toast, but i don't know that much about rearends. I don't think i've ever heard of a GT let alone a 5.0L mustang coming from the factory without limited slip since like '79 or '80.

yeah mustangs come with a peg leg. when you see mustangs at dragstrips and they do burnouts and only one tire spins, that is what it is. if you want to stop this you need to get a differential from auburn or moser or strange or somewhere.

89s came with a traction-loc differential. Sounds like it's time to rebuild it.

Sorry to say, not all the 1989 5.0's had trac-lok. My Uncle is the owner of a 1989 GT Vert, thing is clean as hell. Very nice, 67k or so. The axle stamp indicated he has a one wheel wonder. Forgot what the code is, I'd have to ask him. You'll have to check your numbers, Ford could tell you by running the VIN, you may just need to rebuild the unit. They do wear out after a while. I'm lucky as hell, got 151k on mine, and it's still working good.

Unit- That's pretty interesting about your uncles car. I have a book somewhere that states that all the 8.8 rearends in mustangs came with the traction-loc. Apparently, the book is wrong.

Mine is the exact same way. For now I'll just use one drag radial instead of two. We will problably have to rebuild or get a new or used differential from what everyone says.
