Hey New Member (Question inside)??????
Hey guys I am a new member here I usally hang out at mustang world I figured I would broaden my horizons! I have aquestion no-one has answered yet, maybe you guys can help. What would be involved in dropping in a stroked 351-396 into my 94 would it be worth it or should I stroke the 302->347. Or should I forget all that and get a charger I will be doing this for next spring so I need to start looking into what needs to be done! I want to beat LS1's gggrrrr!

how about a 331 and a S/C? hehehe...
you'd need new brackets, upper intale and headers to put a 351 in... stroked 302 would be simpler.. everything you have would bolt back up ;-) ------------------ 84 convt,'95 302,AFR's, performer 3.55's, underdrives stock shorties stock cam, 1.7's 14.06@100.21, 255RWHP on a hot day 265 on the mph/weight chart |

Welcome, I'm pretty new here too. I was in the same prediciment as you. I bought a 94 351 block (plus polished rods, .010 crank & junk cast pistons) fresh from machine shop( some guy didn't have money to get it out) .020 over (don't know why) paid 200 bucks for it. By the time I calculated cost for quality eagle 408 stroker kit, and conversion parts, it would have been around 3000, so I bought the blower instead. Now I have project 351 in garage, I can leave it 351 or stroke it, either way more power. Plus I can put the blower on it. Stroking the 302 was never an option for me. Good luck which ever way you choose.

What is the hp difference between the 331 and 347? Also I've heard of some oil consumption problems with the 347. It has something to do with the position of the wrist pin, but can someone elaborate?

alot of the 347 strokers have the wrist pin cutting into the oil ring groove on the piston.. HP difference isnt much.. 5-10HP... same with torque..
personally, I prefer the 331 if you want it to last.. if you are racing, the 347 is cool.. ------------------ 84 convt,'95 302,AFR's, performer 3.55's, underdrives stock shorties stock cam, 1.7's 14.06@100.21, 255RWHP on a hot day 265 on the mph/weight chart [This message has been edited by Dark Knight (edited 05-18-2001).] |
